Honestly think I'd use a script I wrote that had any kind of back door?

You might not use it specifically, but your corpies might. And you'd be suprised... you make a script, forget to change something and hop into a game without realizing you're still bugged. Ways around that, sure... but Murphey's law still holds at the worst possible time.

Murphey's law was written by a fruitloop that got stepped on alot. I might be a grazhoppa, but I really don't like being stepped on What goes around comes around applies only in a boomerang, and frisbee, as far as I know. But last time I threw a baseball down a field... it didn't come back.
When you hit a home run, it doesn't return, just don't hit a flyball

Yes I would imagine that scriptwriters use their own versions of the scripts they wrote that are not crippled or have back doors in them in any way. It would stand to reason to be paranoid to give out scripts even to Corpies without putting in a back door or crippling it so that it cannot be used against you. I would imagine that the backdoor is some string message sent over a private hail like "Dance like a monkey!" which causes the script stealer's script to CBY or do something weird or even abort and disable the script.
Kudos to any script writer who puts in a back door that allows the script to act like a remote control robot and basically take over the ship like those remote control scripts do when a corpie is online but lets others take over the ship. Imagine if the script stealer quits the corp and pods all of the other corp members and does even more damage like Atomic Detonate planets that the corp owns before quiting it.
The really smart script writer will put in a backdoor that sends planet and other locations that the script stealer had visited to them in private via the private message function. Or better yet, announces the locations over fedcom, and then has the player broadcast "I am an idiot who steals other people's scripts and gives them to others."
Sometimes it pays to be paranoid, I guess?

I could just see akor loading up a script, me sending a text line, and him posting in the news that I am his uber master and he's a weak slave, claiming all planets as personal, creating a planet, dropping all figs on it, buying a crapload of merfs and trading ships with corpies, sending me his location, and drop carrier....
I'd love that

Hmm..someone mentioned Murphy's Law so I just posting that there was a real life Murphy who was part a team of aircraft designers in the 50's who helped design one of our early fighter jets and included a hand crank down system for the pilot to lower the landing gear even though the craft had hydraulic devices to lower the wheels. When he was asked about the redundant system his reply was to the effect that if any of the hydraulic systems were hit by enemy fire they would fail..thus 'Anything that can go wrong will'.... The corallary to Murphy's Statement is...'At the worst possible time'.

Before this thread is completely highjacked, I would like to clarify why I asked about stealing scripts. Player A and Player B collaborated on a big scripting project. Later Player A found that Player B was corped against him in a game. In an ICQ chat, A learned that B would use the scripts that they were collaborating on against him if given a chance. Of course, A felt that from that time on he would have to work alone on the project.
From the response here, the question as to whether someone should use the scripts that another has made---even private ones---against them. I didn't expect nor approve of that answer. Player B gave me their work (with Player A's permission I believe). Because of the gift, I would never use the big script that they made nor any ones they wrote and gave me against B nor A. But I guess that is just me and my sense of fair play.

Sense of fair play? ROFLMAO!!!! I remember awhile ago I was getting slammed for using a bug in one of the older versions of TW... Well, whats hiliarious, is the same person that was slamming me (Space Ghost) also used another exploit (the * key at login) now that key doesn't show the info it used to, it used to list the class 0's and ferrengals location...
Point is, an advantage is an advantage, take it how you can get it.
