I was once told you could find the class 0's by manually exploring sectors 1-100 in sequence (11-12, 12-13, etc.) I have done it a couple of times and it did work but I can't say it always will.

I've only seen a class 0/stardock with a one-way warp out (or multiple one-ways in) once or twice. I would say in most games, if you do 7 in, 6 out, you'll find it. Probably the best bet is to check those first, then if it doesn't show up, check the rest of the possibles.

Same here, except for edited games. The Mad Hatter banged one (pre twgs) on Eclipse once with 700 backdoors to stardock and 50 to each of the zeroes. It was a bastard to map it.

A historical note: Twassist, which dates from the early 90's, lists class 0 candidates as all sectors whose total warps (warps in + warps out) exceed 10. It prioritises based on total warps, i.e. 13 total is more likely to be a zero than 11 total.

Example of report:
Likely locations for the major ports:

Sector Warps Out Warps In Total
------ --------- -------- -----
4329 6 8 14
125 6 7 13
.. . . ..
3461 6 5 11
3685 5 6 11

I dont remember ever having come across the lower types in ye olde days, but perhaps some here might.

Wow, all very intriguing. Now my interests are piqued, so it's off to test a few things.

I'll report soon.

Hmm. the 1-100 thing is cool. Does that mean you could run a mini-ztm of those sectors and probe the resulting 7 and 8 ways?

I wish it were so, but the 1-100 plots doesn't really work. I've tested 3 bangs so far, and Rylos was found in the 1-100 plots, but AC was missed 2 of 3 times. Also testing total warps to see where the Class 0s rank, and so far its inconclusive. In one test they're at the top, while in another they're mid/bottom. Still testing though.

Ok. So here's another question... if given 1 of the class 0s, is there any way to narrow down the location of the other?

I've had pretty good luck just using the Swath's random sector pairs ZTM to run plots equal to 20-25% of the total sectors in the universe and then checking the 6-out/7-in results in the sector finder tool. It's not 100% but works well enough in time limited games where you can't afford a full ztm.

Maybe instead of just random pairs you could use a script that tracks which sectors where in the path and exclude those from the next random starting and ending sectors that way you cover more ground with fewer plots.

Yeah. If you know the location of one, you can cross that sector off of your list of possibles for the other :P

Heh, You guys take so much for granted.
bang a game with the following settings:
(j) enable gold features: yes
(r) random seed: 2230360383
(a) sectors: 7500
(f) two-way warps: 15% (1125)
(g) one-way warps: 10% (750)

The rest of the settings don't matter.

Then go to dock and tell me what's wrong with it. First one to get the answer gets a cookie.

Details to follow [:D]

Not being at home... what, no 1-way in? Or too few warps out?
