Script Exploits?

To use? or not to use?
If you know someone is using a particular script, weither you wrote it or not, and you know an exploit, should you use it?

Many of you running cherokees SDT against me have noticed I use an exploit, this exploit is a simple fix if you have the source (which was made public) and it's also very effient...

Ever been playing against me, running this script, and notice one of your corpmembers stops running the script, and eventually drops off?

Well, he got about 10 hails in a row from me... "Command [TL=" basically... he hung up, and timed out.

This is just one, but there are dozens, for dozens of scripts.. I think this is perfectly fine, and legit, but how do you feel?

I personally feel if your running these scripts in a turn based game, then you should be at keys... and if your running these scripts in an unlimited turn game, you should know the consequences, and risks... wssm has 2 exploits, supgs wssm has 2 exploits, cherokees 2 ship grid has 3 exploits that I know of, some of oz's have a few exploits that I know of...

back to the topic... whats ur opinion? do you think if you know what script a particular corp is running, and you know the exploit, that it's okay to seize them up? (or worse?)

Graz

(btw, to give reason for my opinion, the game is about war, in WWII we used code talkers to keep from getting 'hacked', to save lives, and increase communication... isn't this the same?) A script we use often should be a script we trust, we should, A: know the risks, or B: fix it.

My .02 if you know of a problem with a specific script you should inform the script writer so they can fix it or post the fix.

If the script writer wont support his work then its fair game to
exploit his shoddy work.

Myself if I had a script I made that has a problem I would respect a player more if they informed me of my error rather then use it against other players, thus makeing my work look bad.

Pfft. I've been on both sides of this. If there are no consequences to running scripts, then we may as well all quit playing. Exploit the hell out of their scripts! Make them pay for being lazy or AFK!

Traitor I agree with you, my point was to notify the script writer of his error, I dont mean to tell the world about something u have found. Weapons are weapons in what ever form you have them.
But its only respectful to inform the script author, if he fails to fix it then let the user beware, they use at there own risk.
As it should be.

I wholeheartedly agree with zentock on that one, tell the author for sure.

But abuse the exploit to the utmost until it is fixed ;)

On Fed one night Speedy and I were chatting. He told me of an incident when Kemper was on dial-up. Speedy was gridding at his cable 175 ping speed when BAM! He got torped by K3 on his 300+ ping dail-up. How? K3 knew the script that Speedy was gridding with and could determine where he would go. From this it was a problem of timing the shots or warp jumps or both so they would reach the right sector at the right time. Kemper might fill you out on the details if he remembers the game.
In another game I saw a corpie determine the gridding pattern of an enemy gridder without even having the script. It's just that some gridders are predictable it appears.
My opinion is use whatever you can. If it is possible to use, then to prohibit it's use is vain as some players would not follow the rule. This applies to script exploits as well as alien farming bugs and even truce games. Some players don't play by the rules. When they don't they can get the advantage over other players.

well that and there are flex photon scripts as well if you notice the person is flex gridding with Rammers t-warp gridder. It is not that hard to figure out how someone is gridding if you take a few moments to figure it out.

As far as what the thread is all about, I agree with all. It's not wrong to use a way of stopping a script. I do like what Zentock said and that if you find a way of spoofing a script, you should let the author know. The reason for that being, they put work into it and i'm sure they would like it to be in the best shape they can make it.

As a side note, I don't see ck's 2 ship grid used too often, and am not aware of any known bugs. Care to share :)

LOL... well not all author's that share scripts put spoofs in them.. I'm sure Ck did his in some area's...LOL as you all remember when he made his scripts public... His photon Script wouldn't fire against himself...ROFL... But i'm surpised CK's SDT script does hang.. Thought it turned messages off during a run... But it's been awhile since i used it... And Zentock is right lol contact that author if he says oh well...LOL learn to write them yourself is the best thing. That way you now all the safety features about the script you are using.

Not to long ago everyone was crying oooh that was crappy that someone used a ship name to cby a person at dock in a game.

Funny now some peeps are like its ok.

If spamming privet tells are ok what then about spamming SS channels?

Me personally its always been a buyer beware market with scripts but a lot of times when you see someone use some major exploit in a script everyone gets all up in arms about it.

I’m confused now people a few months ago it wasn’t ok now it is why?
