Okay, well... The port forwarding doesn't specify telnet, just UDP and PDU or whatever... the port is actually 192.168.1.1 (which is cool) but, unless I allow ALL access to that particular PC, it looks like I can't do it...

o.0 should I just open it up?

graz

Graz what you think is a port is your routers IP. on the internal of the network.

if you know your external IP you can stop the TWGS and go into config and set the thing for the external IP and it should let others log on to the TWGS, Okay nevermind, I just read on down and see you got it going. Hehe.

Sorry for the delay on answering, got so much on my mind lately with the courts and my nephew. I have to fight just to get him home. Jeez the cheap ways a govt body uses to get money out of the feds and us.

Couldn't do that because of the firewall on the router, which I won't be turning off, lol... I did get it figured out though (to vulcan)

To Mr. Potatoe Head... You've got more issues than playboy magazine... but, your a good man, to me, its your mind, not your body that plays a roll in this world. One of the great bodies in history is ALI... where'd his mind get him?

Your a good man orion, and yeah, I'll rib on ya because of your disabilities, but it's not outta cruelness, ur one of the boys :) if u ever need anything, or someone to jabber at for a few, hit me up, u got my icq, and I'll give you my cell number...

Yeah Graz, no need to put your server's IP on the DMZ setting, which routes all ports to your local IP. Script-Kiddies love it when people do that. Only open up port 23 or 2002 or whatever TWGS uses via the port forwarding to your server's static IP address (like 192.168.1.2, because obviously 192.168.1.1 is your Router's IP).

You cannot rib me any more than I have ribbed myself:

Mostly fictional, but also funny as well. [:)]

I got your ICQ, and I like chatting with you sometimes. I just don't have the time to use IM that often. I like your computer business ideas and I wrote them down and still have them. I think you got a lot of good business and computer knowledge. Stay in contact, please. Thanks.

Thanks Graz. I earned a bachelors of science in business management last august. I had a 3.91 GPA when I graduated. I know all of the latest business management theories. I ran two small businesses before and did tech support work with them and only supplied new or used parts when customers needed them. One I was able to afford a small office until our only major client flaked out on us and vanished without a forwarding number, the other I ran from my home. Big problems were mostly trying to collect on money owed to the company. I was reduced to a hobby by the IRS, and virtually was a computer charity. I was taken advantage of by people because I was a nice guy and expected them to pay what they owed in due time.

I think that making custom business applications is a good niche market to get into. I worked on mostly military, law, and medical systems in my career. I can also do business consulting, and I know how to globalize a business and expand into new markets. I hope that maybe one day I can take another potential Enron and straighten it out and make it honest and profitable by reforming management and its employees to new business management theories. Classical management is a big problem, and Enron is a very good case study on why classical management fails so badly.

Tradewars is just a hobby, but it was fun playing the game when I did. I enjoyed playing with and against you. I am not sure if many one day I can write programs to help Tradewars, maybe a Tradewars calculator, maybe some scripts, maybe just debugging other people's scripts, etc.

Anyway if someone else wants to know how to set up a router, they can link to this thread. It is very simple really:

#1 HTTP over to your router's IP address.

#2 Check the status page and write down the DNS, Gateway, etc and use a Netmask of 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0 the later is better if you have a larger network where the third number differs between machines on your LAN.

#3 Set your server IP to a static IP, the best way to do this is to copy the first three numbers of your Router's IP address and choose a different number for the fourth one that no other system on your network uses.

#4 Get into the advanced setting of your router by HTTPing to it again, look for port forwarding or something named like it. Choose it and set up that IP you set the server for to forward port 23 or 202 from the router to it. Do not, I repeat do not set the server IP to the DMZ, because it bypasses the router firewall and exposes your server to the Internet, where viruses and crackers can break into it.

#5 Apply the changes to your router and it should reset. Then reboot your server and let the IP address take place. Remember to use the DNS and Gateway settings you saw in your router's status page, or else hostnames will not work. If you don't see a Gateway IP, try your router's IP address.

#6 Start TWGS and make sure that the port you chose, 23 or 2002 or whatever is used by TWGS. You can start the server now, we assume you ran Bigbang and set up a game from here.

If all works, congrats, you now have a Tradewars server with ports open through your router to the outside world for Tradewars games, and none of the bad ports opened for viruses and crackers. If TWGS still does not work, post a message here and we can try to troubleshoot it.

Thanks Orion, you just saved me from saying the whole same thing, heh, and people it is really that easy well most of the time, sometimes it can get to be a prob, but if you follow Orions advice it should work every time.

I use linksys routers and network everywhere routers ( made by linksys)on my home system, I have about 3 routers. It was a hard setup to get set up too, but it works now. heh.

For other routers, please check the following web site:

Good luck for anyone who uses a router.
