I run through a wireless without any problems.

Can you connect to a server without going through twx? If you can't connect using pure telnet, then it might be your router setup. I am not a network person at all, so I am just guessing.

Did you install a software firewall that is preventing twx from going out? Zonealarm can block it and if you have not allowed twx to go out, it won't. Zonealarm will ask if an app can go out and continue to do so unless you checked the "don't ask again" box. I don't know about XP's firewall or BlackIce, but they may be similar in function.

Is your client (zoc, swath or whatever) connecting to twx?

To connect to Alarmed's server, the following would be entered into twx:
Name: Alrm1214 (just my naming convention with month/day)
Server Address: 70.56.78.75
Port: 2002
Sectors: 20000

And last but not least, is the server you are trying to connect to actually up? That is not meant to offend you, but sometimes the simplest thing is what we overlook. I am guessing that you have tried several servers without any luck.

Promethius is correct. Some firewalls do block TWX. I think XP's SP2 will block twx unless you unblock it. Now, if you have a new router installed, it could be even the firewall settings there. Do what Promethius suggest, go to start->Run, and type
telnet twgs.alienbase.net, that server is nearly always up. If that works, check vid's server. Vid's is 2002. It is possible that 2002 but not 23 is blocked? Or perhaps all are blocked, and you need to check OS firewall, and hardware router firewall.

2 more tidbits. I've seen TWX exhibit those symptoms when using the menu to connect, $c, in Win9x, or it might have been Win2K. It had no problem when right-clicking the icon in the System Tray, and selecting Connect. Secondly, some of the new Athlon64 motherboards have an imbedded firewall that can be enabled. You would probably know if you have one of these boards though. So if this doesn't ring a bell, then you can safely dismiss it.
