I just got into a game on the ICE9 server and ran into a bit of a problem. It seems that the rules for the games are posted on a website - nothing wrong with that, but there was nothing on the intro screen to direct one to their website for rules. I reached this site using StarDock's search engine.

Anyway, I podded a few players in the game and then it sounded as if I had entered a daycare center with all of the crying going on. The sysOp was not involved with this so I really don't know his/her take on the situation.

If anyone decides to play on ICE9, just be aware that they have a website with their rules posted and you will need to visit it prior to dropping a fig outside of dock or chasing someone down by dscan and podding them.

SysOps/GameOps, if you are going to establish rules, put a link on your intro screen to indicate where those rules are. If not, then peeps coming in from somewhere other than the website will probably not know about them and are sure to break them - esp no figs outside of dock or ones regarding gridding.

Hi Prome.

LOL I thought Everyone Knew ICE9 is for Noobs, and *SD* players there
is a NO NO. and will get you banned from the sever. thay frown apon
players with any kind of skill. and ICE9 has been asked to clearly
post the rules, to avoid your situation. but sadly no! I submit for
your aproval some light reading, that might clear up any doubts.

I feel that rules should be posted on game server. general rules on log-on screen and if a game has different rules they should be on the info file. The info file can be huge so there isnt any reason they can't be posted there.

Thanks Zilla - I knew I had heard something about that server and that refreshes everything. Funny thing is that there are two very good low turn players in that game and it will be interesting to see what happens when they get started. I haven't played very many low turn games recently and it is a bit different dealing with 1k moves and 2 and 3 tpw ships.

True I post my rules in the game descriptions of each game on my server, cause the rules for each game may differ from time to time. and that way no one can say it isn't in the rules, I make sure the rules are updated in the game when I announce the changes, sometimes players don't read the game mail and don't get to see it. That is why I always will post the rule changes in the game descriptions, its up to players to look and see if any rules have changed on rebangs too.I don't like conttoversy on the server and try to make it good for all players to play on the server.

2 of my buddies who have not played for like 10 years are playing there, so they asked me to show up and show them a few things, big mistake as I suck anyway. But when my friends get in they are instantly accused of being dupes and one is podded by a jerk named Bill Gates.Every day I get in he post about all the dupes and this and that. Gotta love it.
I was even accused of cheating because I got in and got the best ship fast. Me cheating is like a no no that never happens.
So in short, it is one messed up place and which btw is offline now for some reason.

Bill Gates thinks just because he has all the money in the world, he can do as he sees fit. Ice9, even tho I have never been there has always been a subject of probs with rules since I have heard of it. I wonder why..... lol

Wildstar - you are right, just tried to log in to ICE9 and it is down. They had a hard drive crash a few days back and he was running a temp game until he could get his edits back together so maybe that is what is happening. If the temp game comes back online I will finish it - either get #SD# or take out a few more people. I did hear someone complain about Bill Gates podding them while I was on. There are something like 50 players in the game - most of them seem to have logged in, decided to sit in Fed and logout.

I can only imagine the shock someone like Res would have given their nice polite game of TradeWars. Supposedly profanity is against the rules, but I was impressed with one player's ability to morph a 4 letter word into 7 letters - didn't think he would know how to add "ing" to it. ;) Ah well, that just guaranteed I would do my best to #SD# him.

Well the sysOp of ICE9 did a good thing when he recreated his ANSI - he is adding the rules to the server and noted that they exist with the ! command. I was surprised that I was not removed from the game and the sysOp didn't say anything when he came into the game to see how things were going. He is banging a couple of games - building (not sure about that) and a normal kill them all game on Friday. His temp game is being allowed to run but is being closed to new players on Friday also.

On 9/17 the hard drive on the server died I’m sorry to say and until the 23 there was simply one game up listed as a temp game that was really only there for players to connect to each other. Do to the large player base that emerged in the temp game rather than delete the game it was closed and allowed to continue when I put up two new games on the 17’th. Its true that on the 20th there was no posted rules on the into page but they were there for the opening of the games on Friday and as you said they are on the ice9 web page at http://www.oregonsouth.com/ice9 and that address is prominently displayed on the log in screen.

Its easy to read a couple lines from a post or two on here from people who haven’t spent a lot of time at ICE9 and have a misunderstanding about what the board is about.

First of all Yes we do run some games that have rules that many people here would not like; these are clearly labeled as building games. We also run unregulated games. Most of the time Half the games are unregulated. The rules are clearly posted by pressing ! At the main menu and on both the main page and the rules page of the ice 9 website. Other than the disruption caused by the crash indicated above the rules have always been posted and have not changed for many months. Many months ago it was suggested by some that the rules to the building games be made clearer so they were changed to their present form and I have not had a problem with the clarity since that time.

I do try to keep on top of dupe problems and do so aggressively but that’s not to be confused with the post about bill gates. That was a player who took it upon himself in one of the building games to police players he assumed were dupes, most of who were not, and he was dealt with as soon as I got wind of it.

Currently there are only two open games running. One is unregulated and one is a building game. I drop by each of these frequently along with the one closed game. I plan on bringing it up to the normal 6 open games over the next 4 to 6 weeks. Most nights there are about 15 to 25 players scattered around the board. Not a huge number but most seem to be having fun.
