I am sure we are all very greatful for the sysops for haveing games for us to play in.
But what burns my butter is when a sysop bangs an unlimited game and you know it will last like 3 days to a week tops if that and they let it go on for like a month. I have been in a few games like this lately and let me tell you, when the entire clv is #sd# and you have every planet and no ones been in for a week but you, its boring.
So to sysops, I know you have real life stuff, but please watch games to see if they are over. And if they are and you dont want to rebang, please disable logins so we can say we won and stop coming back for days on end.
This has been Wildstar's rant of the month. Thanks for reading.

LOL. Have not heard that one before. Care to explain your rationale?

Sure Singularity.
They both take planning, but unlims take a different type.
You cant always wait for everyone to run out of turns so you can do what you want, you can get eliminated in literaly 5 mins, you have to remember that since a game last a short time you have to take that into consideration since a player can find your base sort of easily. You have to think way ahead and do it now. Your cashing is very important, how are you going to do it and such. And the most important. You have to always worry about the big attacks and invasions in an instant so you have to plan for that too. Most of the above in a turn game wont happen for a week if longer. Thats why I say you need planning and such.

The few unlims I've played in, I rarely build much of a base until I need it. Not like production of anything but ore and ftrs is ever going to help. Do you build lots of bases early then?

The cashing aspect is one I've never figured out, in an unlim what methods of cashing are most effective? I would think SST/SDT would be largely useless since there's no turn benefit to be found. PPT or SSM, due to how easy they are to set up, would be better. But maybe not.

I guess an unlim requires more pre-game work then? As once the game starts, you just have to move.

Basically someone in the game needs to contact the sysop via email or IM or whatever and let him/her know.

SST is the best method of cash in an unlim game. Easier to find pairs, no move delay associated in the run cycle.

In turns games, you can't just wait for everyone to run out of turns. I have played unlimited turn games, and I can somewhat see the draw of them. It's all the action of a turns game, no wait. Unfortunately, the need to manage your resources is almost non-existent as well. Additionally, the person with the fastest connection has a HUGE advantage in an unlimited turn game.

From what I've seen, unlimited turn games breed lazy players who lack fundamental skills. They become reliant on the idea that there is always more resources and they can just press that attack macro with impunity. The truth of the matter is, with a better fundamental understanding of the game and some simple prep work, it is ridiculously easy to lead unlimited turn players into situations where their planets are quickly drained and they are killed. I base this on games against people such as loki, bone collector, and alexio, those who I have heard described as the "best" at unlimited turns. I will admit it has been a while since I have played an unlimited turn game, but I have found in general the skill level of players has decreased, not increased, so assume the same has happened in unlimited turns.

I wouldnt say decreased. Just different.
I am a bad example because I suck at both, but lets take a good unlim player like Alexio and a good turn player like say EP and put them in an unlim and a turn game. They would each excel in their best environment. It is how you are conditioned. I could say by the same token by what you call decreased skill, if you were to get in an unlim game with a decent player, being not used to it, you would be sd generally fast. It is just what you are used to. NOt putting down turn games, I just think it sucks saying that unlim players are lazy, sloppy and not skilled players.

It all come's down to the edits, both low and unlimited turn games take some kind of skills to survive.

I think a lot of the problem with Unlims has to do with the cashing scripts. You Wildstar have a private WSSM that does X amount of money, Alexio has one that does XX amount of money, Jhereg has a WSST script that does XX to XX 1/2X perhaps, and then there are even better ones that can do XXX amount. Take all that into account, I go in with the public SupG WSSM, i'm making 1/2 X per hour to any of those, in 15 minutes, I have 20k figs on board, and you have 125k figs. You are ready to hunt already 15 mins in where i'm not. Major disadvantage

I'm not trying to knock all unlimited turn players. I think alexio is a pretty good player, as was bone collector when he still played. However, they still rely too heavily on the "free resource" idea of game play. They blind charge places and then rely on their script reaction speed to get you when you try to do the same. If you are ready for them to do that, you drain their planet and kill them. I say this because I have done it.

I have seen a lot of turns players who have done very well at unlimited turns, but very few unlimited players who can just step into turns the same way. I guess you can take that as you will.

Alex,

I do totally believe that, as well as who gets into the game first. You can't tell me that if I get into the game 10 minutes after you, my chacnes of surving is still 50/50 (if skill level is on par with each player). And if you do get to cash up triple the figs I do in 10 minutes, then it would be crazy for me to run a wssm script and blindly hit your figs cause you know where I am, can hunt me down and kill me quickly. Shoot every time I see you in an unlim, you're hunting within 10 minutes, if not less.
