Well. Time limit games do allow a single player at keys to take out a base of 3 or 4 corpies while they're not at keys, tho. What it means is that you cannot mount an active defense, rotate planets in and out, refill your sentinels, reset IGs, vary the cannons, kill enemy sector ftrs, blockade the attacker or anything else that seems to work in other games. While it's technically possible to monitor events and react to them, most people don't set themselves up for that.

Granted, it has an old-school feel. Which is great I guess. I remember the days of sitting for an hour playing my 200 turns on a 2400 baud dialup, then logging off to watch TV or spend 3 hours talking with friends on the phone. Now I keep a window open on my 2nd monitor, have the TV on in the background and work those 3 hours instead... crank up teamspeak or whatever else if I wanna talk "on the phone." As you can clearly see... these dastardly unlimited time games have just changed everything!

Am curious tho to see what people in BOTE did to bypass the time limit tho. I'm guessing they're not going to just sit around (well, I don't know... I wasn't playing then) while they're being invaded.

so basically singul... what you are crying about is that you can't run a 24/7 afk script.
if you have a corp of 5, you can STILL have 24 hour coverage and have an at keys defense at all times.

pleeaaase, i've solo invaded corps of 3 or 4 while they were online and it made no difference.

there was a bug back then that i think basically, when you logged in right before tern, you could use up the rest of your time, then log out, and log back in, and *then* your time would reset (rather than at tern)
and most people *did* just sit around while they got invaded. i believe that was the game that only one corp went mobile and it was a brutal Butt stomping by K3 n crew.
i know my corp was a rag tag group thrown together to represent alienbase at the last second.
it was fun though, i was just learning about the game, and got to see all these great players for the first time (even though it wasn't for very long, heh)

Let me see 5 on a corp, 4 hour time limit = 24? Reganomics? Slim say it ain't so, a Republican? lol, just giving you grief.

Fido? WOOF WOOF! Had incredible good time when the hubs got answers back from Australia and such within a week! [:D] Still a couple Fido hubs out there if you do the Google for them... Temple of the Screaming Electron still around also and that is where PGP was released on local hubs.... Fun times for hobbyists before the web took control... Things like battles to see if ZIP, ARJ, ZOO and others would become the industry standard for file compression...
Major phone bills bouncing files around the country and getting more in exchange... McAfee was best anti-viral then and IMHO still is..
Heh...got bored waiting for L.O.R.D. turns to regen at midnight and found a little game named Tradewars in another door...played my 100 turns in 500 sector game and only had L4 planets and no good ships for unregistered version...and then along came JP! [;)]

FIDONET, geez, do i remember that, had some darn good discussions there once upon a ...
Time or turn Vs. Unlim, I have had fun in both but I think a turn limited (note I did not say time) makes a player think more, therefore...
Old (1987/1988) games, no helpers, not enough time to play your turns safely unless you payed...
Any old Colo Springs, CO gamers out there?

no, however the game that this thread was based on had a 12 hour limit.
(5 on a corp, 12 hour limit = 24) hehe

Another problem with the time limit games - lag. I am messing around in one game with a 4 hour limit and the server runs ok for about 20 minutes and then slows to a crawl for several minutes. If I am trying to get the max time in to make moves, then the lag can cause serious problems. Ah well, guess that just makes it that much more "interesting".

lag and time limits have nothing to do with one another.

That's a server problem, not a problem with time limits

Yes they do, because you only have to put up with the lag for the length of time you are allotted each day. Drumroll please... hehe [:D] Well alright fine, exit stage right it is. [V]

We didn't bypass it, we had people that played all day long, so basically every 10-15 minutes we had someone logging into a game to check things out. Wrote scripts to fire photons at the last fig hit from your messages to nail people who were trying to grid while we were out.

a lag that comes and goes can mess with ur time limit....PERIOD
the server's clock isn't slowing down, but u are, so u can't make the best outta ur time.
So a lag that shows up for 20 minutes and slows u down, will affect ur Time/cash ability
where it used to be turn/cash u were worried about.
It makes it a total different game, therefore u have to use a different stratagy, to get the most outta both, and lag sucks....
And Harley, I take it those old scripts aren't public....lol

They were pretty much single usage scripts. They don't have a use in most games.
