quote:well i had fun , not, boring millitary style corp game, sat around for endless hours before giving up on this game, i would also like to add that this game appears to be a showcase of the so called elites using scripts that no one thats not in the loop has. Its a killing field of newbs for the so called elite, and they use the newbs to make them cash so they can fight it out. My own corp spent more time bashing me than teaching me, was killed on the practice server so i could not practice, thanks oz, and for the most part underutilized, as i feel that having someone who wants to learn more about hand to hand combat and instead was told to grid so the elites on my corp could have a better chance at killing the other corp, thats all fine, but when this game is over i return to the same thing, game in which the elite all join together to beatup on the players who are single players trying to get better, but if your not accepted as part of a group or perma you're left out in the dark.
As for making new friends, i feel as though i have no friends in the corpwars world, if i do they are unknown to me, and believe me i play in alot of games with a lot of people, and i dont consider any of them to be my friends, correct me if im wrong! But it seems as though the status quo is what is ruining the game and making new players not play, and therefor the numbers of players is dwindling slowly away. No new blood equals death to the game.

That is probably one of the most popular misconceptions in TW, in order to achieve a status of “Elite” that you need to be Blue and you need to #SD# everything that moves.
As true as it may seem, this portrayal lacks any depth, let’s not forget that killing opposing team members is only possible so long as the “Killers” are being fed copious amounts of figs and we all know where these come from.
A while back I was fortunate enough to be involved in a large game just like this one and one of my team members was Jhereg. I was new and nobody really knew me so I was allocated to the Red “Cashing” team. Jhereg and Cherokee (also a team mate) collaborated and molded a couple of scripts for this particular game. I’m having trouble remembering which scripts in particular but I do remember that Jhereg had inserted a line of code into the furber script that sent out over our SS channel after bringing a furb something like…..
“Furb delivered, awaiting further instructions Oh Red Masters!”
Outside of being surprisingly funny, it was deadly serious. I wish I still had a copy of it. (Along with some others I have lost he has given me over the last while). No successful team in any game can solely rely on just killers. Without good support they will quickly run out of cash and find themselves being these vicious killers sitting at dock in a Merc with no figs. How intimidating does that sound?
If you return from your self inflicted pity Master, I suggest you get back into the game and accept whatever role your CEO designates, and do it the best you can.

BTW - Oz has podded me in practice games as well, I just learn to move faster.

Master,
It can be difficult to start the game when you are lacking some of the better firepower and game experience. As the saying goes, you have to work your way up. To be effective in this game, you need to know great detail about every aspect of the game. If you play as a red casher in one big tourney, try to get promoted to a blue/gridder or a furber in the next ones. You cannot expect to jump to the front lines right away. Even our Marines need to go through boot camp before going to the front lines.
I *DO* understand your concerns over getting started in this game. It is great experience to play in CW and glean as much as you possibly can from the "so called" elites of the game. It's a great opportunity to learn! Why not sit it out and do what you're asked to do - but follow along what your corp is doing and apply it in your own games? The best way to make friends and learn/enjoy this game is to be a TEAM PLAYER. It's not an individual game. As you get more experience I'm sure that a CEO would give you a duty more fitting to your skills.
Keep working at the game and get some more practice. If you are having trouble finding a teammater, let me know and I can play in a game with you sometime. I certainly don't know as much about this game as most of the people here do, but I might be able to teach you a few things.

The worst thing I think for a newer player really isn't the duties they are given. I'm willing to bet that you are upset because you felt ignored by your team. If so, it's not personal, just chaotic in a game like this.

Its still going, but a c1 victory is imminent. Not that there was any doubt
Seriously though, we just have to give it more time, its still anyone's game. You can look at the death totals and back logs at http://www.tw-foundation.com/corpwars/whosplaying.html if you want to try and get a feel for whats going on. Logs tend to be boring to read though, lots of "joe blow DESTROYED the planet .!" and "john doe DESTROYED suzy q's Merchant Freighter!".

Thanks Psion, been looking at that but doesn't give a real feel, ya know. I was supposed to be on Stockton's team but knew I had an upcoming move and that it would take the new phone co. 3 (yep, 3) weeks to hook up DSL so I gracefully bowed out. Thanks again ;{)

Unless they replaced you Gray I'm sure Stockton's team could use more bodies...they seem to be dropping like flies! Stockton though has been a killer extraordinaire. He's also suffered alot of deaths...gusty!
