I think script spoofing will follow its current trend, and eventually dwindle or cease. Community set standards for gameplay might well affect it, but its more likely to be guided by the fact that every spoof draws one more out from a finite pool. I don't mean that literally, but as every spoof tactic becomes relatively well known, so do the methods of guarding against it.

Regarding a few comments:
The method used wasn't known or tested up to that point. If you have ever done any twx scripting and talked with others- alot of your boring time is spent asking - "What if?"
I wrote the bot - like ages ago... and release it mainly because people wanted to use it. It grew to something pretty cumbersome as added features were inserted - and I am not a programmer so- my stuff defenately isnt up to par with stuff from say- ck or jhereg. Me and J were discussing whether or not that spoof would work- as it just popped into my head that day. We tried it- it did- i fixed it. That's about it. We didn't mass cby everyone- or leak it out for everyone to use. It goes along the line with I have fixed other issues with it. Jhereg and Doc who found a way to spoof my reloader section- i had to fix that as well ... It's not like i planted some sort of easter egg to accept commands from me with any bot.
As to its command verification- i think it is fairly safe. The bot records corpy names exactly- and hails them upon verification. So the only way i can think to spoof it would be:
1. you would need the ss channel- which is VERY hard to get unless someone leaks it- then u have multiple problems.
2. you would have to know bot name- not hard if you have 1.
3. you would also have to know who is verified to use it - ie. logged in to the bot
4. you would have to change your name to match the first 6 characters of the logged in person then use a ss command - obviously giving away 1.
self commands are now protecting with ansi - color checks as well as corpie commands- to prevent ship names and persons names in game from spoofing.
about the only way i see to avoid 1-4 is to make it reverify for each non self-command or time out verification after so long....if anyone thinks this is neccessary- let me know and ill look into adding it.

ya, ender, as oz said, he didnt know it would work, tested it on me, it *didn't* work (for some unknown reason) but it worked on rat, i went to oz, he fixed it right away. hell, oz prolly spent half of USO fixing one or another of his scripts, heh. of course he was under alias and therefore now had my corp SS and possibly other info that i sent him while trying to get the stuff fixed.

to me, a self bot and and afk photon are completely different things to spoof, and they still are, and i still think it was a ****head move, heh, but i do see where they are coming from and i can understand and agree with what they have to say so...

Kav im surprised you are giving oz a free ride on this one when you cried bloody murder for his stunt in bg3, I dont think either stunt makes oz a cheater but he does keep popping up when these controversies are happening. OH also im glad oz was HAVOK, cause i liked havok he was fun to play with and i would of been mad if i had to admit to liking to play with DOC WHO hehe, now i can still hate doc

How abput writing a script that spoofs the person who tried to spoof it? Or make them think thier spoof worked? Then trumping them with mega figs?
Just a thought. As you can tell I am one of "those" people that knows very little about scripting.

big12ozHOG wrote a certain script and made it available to the public, free of charge. It was evidently insufficiently discriminatory as to triggers. Many scripts are .Oz busted an opponent's use of it.

I ask in ignorance if the script were encrypted, to prevent easter egg detection? If so, very underhanded but it was FREE . Nobody has to use it. Use at your own risk.

About spamming and trying to spoof a script, it has happened to me , alot in the past then i discovered i can turn off fed com and all incoming messages.It totally solved the whole problem ,i never use subspace any more , i either use ICQ or MSN .This whole subject is somewhat silly really , script spoofing and spamming may be irriatiing but if you know anything about the game , you know how to turn those annoying messages off.And if peeps are wigging out about being spoofed then for crying out loud type in "c n 7" that should solve your problem.As for scripts limiting newbs growth as a player , i agree scripts are most useful to a person that knows what he is doing , when i first started i didn't know what a helper was or what or how to use a script...i played old school for about 6 months before getting a helper , it taught me alot about how the game works and made me a better player .My advice for newbs is find a low turn based game with some nice folks to help yah out and play with out a helper...experiement , get a feel for the game , before you go totally script happy.

Oz's scripts are always unencrypted as far as I know. Now someone may go and encrypt and give it to someone, but the original source was source.

I am with Harley on this. I've been around this game long before 2000 and script smacking (my term) and bug use has been around since the beginning. This game is about innovation. Find a weakness in your opponenets shields and use it to the max. If you're running heavy scripts and someone "smacks" you down, well, it's the risk you took using the script.

I got people that don't like me from way back. It's nothing new to me and It doesn't bother me. I am also not bothered when someone finds a chink in my armor and beats the crap out of me. it just means I need to make sure and remove the offending link in my chain the next time around.

I say those that quit because they inadvertently CBY'd themselves need to grap their belt loops, jack their shorts back up up into the crack of their Butt and try something a little more mundane..... like checkers....

MB - Grow up. Look at the statement in it's context. He's using that to illustrate the example that just because something has happened before doesn't mean it's right for it to happen now. For example, the nazi's slaughtered a lot of jews, that doesn't mean that it's ok for other atrocities of the same nature. I don't appreciate you trying to get someone banned in this manner.
