Well, how do I do this...
I joined a game to talk to some people. The sysop is there playing with t-edit (as was posted!) with his buddy (also using tedit)
no prob, im not there to compete, just to talk.
so i get my pod to dock and start talking to a third party.
the sysop and his friend start talkin crap to me (like i in my pod can compete with t-edit?) so i tell it straight, (to the sysop's friend) i said something like "i dont know who you are or what you think you are, but i guarantee you arent half of what you think you are"
obviously the op didnt like this cause i was moved to a sector with 5 lvl6's and 2b figs and the op in an IDC.
he said "oops, he's not at dock anymore, if he twitches he is dead"
so i didnt move, i continued to explain, im not here to play against tedit, but if they want to play, ill play them any game, any edit.
the op killed me.
so i came back in, the op's buddy laughed and called me a newbie.
i calmly repeated my challenge.
this went on for a while getting nowhere.
i think i said Butt or something and the op banned me for using profanity.
appearantly the sysop thinks this behavior is ok because him and his buddy (says her name was bohemian) have "played since [i] have been in diapers" and that they can do as they wish.
they were very rude, even though i've attempted to help the sysop get his board up and running.
i told him if he acts like this he is not going to get many players on his board, and he acted like i was threatening him. that was not a threat, i can not control who goes to your board. but i know what people expect of their sysops. and you sir are not vader (2005 sysop of the year)

i am not accusing anyone of cheating, or saying people should not play at certain places.
all i am saying is this is how i was treated, and you can draw your own opinions off of that.
so thank you master blaster for coming back and running a server, i enjoyed using it for a couple days.
however a word of advise not regarding everything written above... players don't appreciate op's who play on their own server. it makes them feel like god (or i believe you stated on icq "I am GOD") and they have in the PAST abused this power, so most players avoid servers where op's play for that reason.

please master blaster, post a response.

Ok, now tell them the truth. The game you entered is game J. Right on the login screen it states the game is in development and you enter at your own risk. It is NOT a real game as I am using it for testing to learn how my server works. I had a couple people in there testing some things for me and you came in and started blasting everyone. When you were warned, you resorted to using profanity.

Profanity is NOT allowed at any level on my server and as such, Your IP was disconnected and immediately banned.

Then, you started attacking me in ICQ, I removed you there too. Because you have no control over your temper, you have been PERMANENTLY banned from my server. Your statements that you can keep people from playing my games holds no water and does not worry me in the least.

You need to get some counseling and start learning some techniques for anger management my friend. Get that done, then come talk to me and I'll see about letting you back in.

and sigh, i keep full logs, so anyone who wants the truth need only ask for it. i made no personal attacks in game or on icq. and i believe i said something like how i would "whoop [your buddie's] Butt in any game".

I agree that GameOps shouldn't play on their own servers. Observer is one thing, but... New GameOps sometimes get drunk with power when it comes to what Tedit allows them to do in game.

Admitedly, Tedit is cool to play with at first, but once you have players in a game... If the game is an Open Dev, then the players are there to play. Closed Dev. by invite only.

Point is that Tedit should be used constructively, and not used to flex muscles, or inflate ego. If it's just a matter of a ban, then going through the trouble to shift a person to a heavily armed sector and then taking the time to rub it in is just childish. And though it may be a game that's still in Dev. It makes you wonder what the Op's conduct will be once the game server is in production. Don't develop a reputation early on, or you just MAY lose potential players before your game even gets banged.

I only have 1 oppinion here. If your going to play with tedit on a game as a "development game" CLose it, don't keave it oopen for people to join. Also never, never play on your own board.

well aparently Butt is not profanity because the blockers on this board don't block it. And why would you tedit someone in any game when they upset you? If you stay on the sysops good side maybe he'll give you 2 billion figs a 10 deep bubble full of lvl 6 planets. If profanity was used then ban him don't put him in a sector to inflate your ego. All you did was say this is what happens when you upset me. Not a very good way to run a server.

As a sysop myself, I frown on anyone who abuses their OP privlages and put people in hopped up sectors to flex, if I done this to everyone who ticked me off, I wouldn't have any players on my board, when I am Developing a game, I leave it closed until it is ready for use then I will reset it to the begining and open it, I know Slim little from his posts, and know he only gets fired up when provoked and will speak his mind, nothing wrong with that, as far as i am concerned. I like some of his posts. And he has helped in me setting up my tourney settings along with a few others, as for a sysop playing on his own server, I dont care if one does, as long as he does not access his T-Edit and cheat, but when one does cheat to win then it is wrong, as well as using the T-Edit to flex power, which is something I make as a rule for myself not to do, I am a relatively new sysop myself but the one thing I have learned is to take care of the server and see to the players problems and see if it can be fixed, I have a good rapport with my players, and they will tell you that I keep a good server and make sure things run as smooth as possible, I am not taking sides on the arguement but stating things as I have seen them in the past from experience.

I have played on boards where the sysop played and never cheated and usually lost most of the time, and the same on boards that the sysops played and cheated like crazy. If you want players to play on games let them, but when in Development of a game, keep it closed until ready, and invite players to come in to help with the testing and cut out the players coming in and playing a game in testing, this is to just to keep the confusion and troubles down.

Ok, I been watching this and now I'm going to go against my own word and speak again.

The game I am editing involves setting a bunch of planets (building boundaries) and making ports. It's going to take some time. I have a few friends that log into game J to mess around with scripts and so forth or help me design this or that so I leave the game open so they can easily access it. Everyone that comes to my server knows what I am doing and except for one very loud and obnoxious person, I have had ZERO trouble with it.

This individual started running around killing people and when he was asked to cease and desist, he refused and started spamming fedcom. Then the profanity started and I disconnected him.

The profanity used was NOT the word Butt, they were far worse (yes, they, as in plural) Even after I disconnected this individual from the game (had not banned him yet) he came to my ICQ and continued to verbally assault me. That's when the decision was made to permanently remove him from all my lists. Any sysop out there would have done the same thing. On top of the profanity and the more than 30 instant messages I received from him over a 15 minute period, he insisted that he could keep people from coming to my server and told me his intent was come here and slander me because he had a lot of Twar friends and they would all listen to him.

Now, I have 9 other very solid and T-edit cheat free games that are running problem free. In fact, I just rebanged the very game this individual won in 4 days the last time around.

I have been playing this game for a VERY long time and I have NEVER been called a cheater. I've also never been called a really great player. I almost always lost but I ALWAYS had fun doing it. I would never consider cheating, even as a server owner. Ask the half dozen people that have completely stomped me into the Punyverse since I put this server up 2 weeks ago. Never once have I retaliated with any kind of edit, even when I became angry. (YES! I get angry in this game just like everybody else)

Now, as far as those here that feel the need to judge me, I would think twice. You are NOT getting the whole story. This guy is like a child stomping his feet pretending to flex his (invisible) muscle in this community. I would suggest the only reason he won the last game is because he spent every minute of each 8 hour period online madly scripting away making cash to kill with.

Now, lets talk about this game for a minute. HOLY CRAP! (Yes, you can use that word on my server) What in the Sam Heck has happened since I was last in the Punyverse? Talk about a game going right in the toilet. Now it's all Unlimited, see who can script more money faster than the other guy to buy more fighters to kill with.

You should have seen the E-mails I recieved when I reset the ship delay to normal. I totally ruined their lives! They were bored to death! How were they ever going to be able to finish the game by the end of the week with these settings! All their scripts were running at a snails pace! They could only move a million colonists an hour set like that! They were mad as hell and they weren't going to take it anymore! LOLOLOLOL!

I have seen people writing scripts where the intention was to BEAT the built in speed limits within the code of the game. Give me a break! The screen goes by so fast, you can't even tell what the script is doing! WHAT IS THE POINT! This game was created before the days of the pentium computer and if I remember right, my first experience with this game was on a 286 SX33 machine with a 4800 Modem! At that time, internet access didn't exist to login to a BBS and I was dialing them up with my rockin fast external modem all over the country! Sometimes, My phone bill exceeded $1000.00 a month!!!!

For me, this game is about resource management. The games I like can last 3 months or more. Why? Because I like a low turn (500 to 1500) 5000 sector game with all the delays set to normal! Where every turn is managed to maximize resources. OH MY GAWD! When I set a game like that up, the naysayers immediately come here and started badmouthing me. They start telling people that I donn't know how to set a game up or that was a complete nincompoop and no one would play here and they were going to see to it!

Now, a lot of my old time Twar buddies have vanished. I currently have more than 6000 ICQ contacts on my list (minus 1 now) and many of them are Twar players from the past. ALL of the old time players that I contacted said the same thing. They got tired of Twar, they thought it went down the wrong path with all the upgrades and configurability that were added and they just didn't find it fun anymore. Basically, the settings that are available now promote script use and speed of function over turn management and strategy hence, the game isn't a game anymore, it's an application for script testing.

Now you know how I feel.

I am building an empire game. One where there will be an Evil Overlord that cannot be defeated. You will be able to join and live within the empire battling your neighbors, making money, paying taxes to the Evil Overlord (or not paying and having them taken from you) There will also be a group of Overlord Underlings whose job it will be to keep things stirred up. THIS will be a very long lasting enterprise and new players will be able to come in, pledge allegiance to the Overlord and get his protection until they can set off on their own.

Everyone, I must be no one then because i just saw today that Note about the game. Why wouldn't you just kill him not put him in a sector where he would die if he moved. You say i'm not looking at both sides... I understand slim can get out of hand and maybe he said more than he admits to maybe not I don't know but i do believe you punished him and when he refused to be punished the way he was you got angry. I personally don't play unlimited games. I normally test on closed servers or games specifically marked test. The only thing scripts have done in turn games is do monotonous tasks. I only use kill scripts whenever others are using scripts to move. Scripts do not improve a player, player knowledge does. When you use scripts turn management is harder, turns go by fast and they seem to disapear. Turn management doesn't go away with the use of scripts it actually becomes more important. Oh well we'll never know what actually happened. If the logs get posted editing of logs will be used to explain the reason a person is wrong.

In terms of ship delay, I personally recommend sysops don't use it because it isn't leveraged fairly. Among the various ships it's fine, but when using the planetary transporter or the planetary transwarp, there is no delay charged. So if you have it set to normal, your 4 tpw ISS takes 4 seconds to leave a sector after hitting a fig, but someone can use their p-trans or p-warp to be there with no delay to photon you. Now, there are option for the person gridding. They can xport out after a fig hit, then xport back in later, but it's still likely to eat a photon. It just doesn't seem "fair." However, each to their own.
