*shrug* I like them personally, just because if Im bored and wanting to play for more the 1500 turns..I don't have to go to a new game.

I think it's because the more turns you have the more room for error, and with unlims there is normally a time limit at the good ones, and the quickest players normally win. Also it kinda goes against the spirit of the game in my eyes, turns is translated from hours in a day and credits from money. You have so much time in a day not unlimited and you have that much time to make so much money, unlimited time doesn't reflect a realistic trade system the quicker you are gives you more time in the your "day" so unlimited games aren't for the slower players they're for the quick ones or those testing things that's just what i think though.

In general Unlim games have very little to do with skill, and 90% on keytime and scripts. In general, most games are quick and over, or you have a long truce followed by a blood bath. Neither is overly fun in my opinion.
It is my opinion, and not saying it is correct, that an unlim game is what has created the killer mentality in TW. In unlim games, you can just go kill people, and have no worry about replacing resources.
Also, a turn based game requires the player to think, while a unlim, they can fire up scripts. I was asked many time in the last tournament about how to hunt, etc. Well, much of it is based on things you need to learn, but you won't in an unlim because you can run a gridder for ever.
But in the end, I think it is because it boils down to that unlims are in general won by scripts and people with alot of time. While people who play in turn based games have to learn how the game works. If they screw up, it could cost them a lot, while in an unlim, you just make more.
Probably the most prevelent though, is that there are so many BAD unlim edits. With unlimited turns you can make unlimited money, so to make ships / planets balanced to it, they rapidly grow out of control. A game with 100M figs in it on day 10 means you don't need to worry about resources, or actually learn the game. You just run a pdrop and hope to hit someone, or tactics like that.

Well said Jhereg.
For me, the appeal of Tradewars has always been strategy. I like trying to out-think my opponent, striving to build bases more efficiently, laying a better grid, locating their resources, and out-cashing other corps. But all of these revolve around this one precious commodity... TURNS. When you remove the turn limit, the need to be better in the other areas diminishes significantly.
Oh, and the turn limit helps keep my marriage intact
But then you asked about unlimpeted games... as in games without limpets... and I like those just fine. Satisfied Slim

"Oh, and the turn limit helps keep my marriage intact "
hahahaha.
unlims basically are just time wasters IMO. they are games that you can play to mess around in while you are waiting for a fun turn game to open, or a turn game to open that has a decent turn out. since its not all that often that a fun low turn edit opens and has a big turn out, people just play unlims and kill stuff to take off the edge
i dont think that many people dislike unlims, i think they dislike that people new to the game come across them and assume that is what the game is, and then never learn anything about the game, they never become good, and they eventually come on EIS, make a ranting post and never come back. i believe that is why most people dislike unlims, because ultimately, it is causing our community to suffer.
of course, i feel no pity for people who join unlims and die and leave. its called patience. you have to put time in to be good. which is another reason people like unlims, they can click a button, walk away, come back and have the resources of a god. and with certain edits as Jher said, they can have ships/planets like gods too. then when they play a stock turn game, they sit and wonder why they suck so badly.
to sum all that crap up:
"people dislike unlims because they deter the growth of tradewars"
and you can quote me on that
heh

I can see where your coming from slim. I like the game alot...I guess..I could play turn games, BUT I would hate to join a corp or even play on my own in one just because right now I don't have alot of dedicated time ya know? But I agree I see alot of new people come along and press a few buttons and HMM stay online for 24 hours, next thing you know they have the game.

Actually, you need less online time in a turn game. If you do your work and do it well, you won't need to be online all that long. I have found solo games are a great way to improve, followed up with playing a turn game with some good knowledgable players that can show you how to improve.
