I am looking for servers where the best players play. I have been at twgs.alienbase.net, but haven't found anything with that level of play anywhere else.
I have been checking on Stardock and Synchronet, and have found a few servers, but nothing with a perceptibly high quality of play.
Where do the best players play?
Is there a tournament or ranking system in place?
Thanks,

A lot of the best players are either taking a break from tradewars or have retired from the game completely as of late.
Some of the servers I would log on to would be alienbase, blacksun, stardock, Bone Collectors server (can’t remember the telnet address right now) and The lost traders tavern to find some of the better players who are still actively playing.
The best way to find a competitive game would be to keep checking the postings on EIS and twgs.org.
There was a mention of a game of TW chess not to long ago on this board I don’t know if the game will actually be played or not but from my past experiences usually some really good players turn out for that type of game also there were just a few new games open up at blacksun.
Tradewars is kinda in a lull right now and it takes a little bit of looking to find a good competitive game.

Sad to say but I have to agree with you on some of the best players leaving the game. I know several that are now into another online game and I don't think they will be coming back. It is really amazing to think that a text based game has survived as long as Twars has. I know that you would think a game as old as this one would have faded away with the competition that is out there, but it is still a very fun game to play.

I still have to get with CK about Chess, but hopefully some good players will play.

Actually, I think of Diddy's top 18, at least 1/2 I don't see anymore in games.

#2:OVID. im the greatest
hehe j/k
but:
twgs.alienbase.net
blacksun.gotdns.org
twkillers.dnsalias.org
those are the 3 servers that i see the most people playing most often with the most skill.

Ok, good. Thanks. I think that when I went to blacksun, it didn't look like there were that many players there. But, it may be because some of the games just rebanged.
When I went to twkillers, I noticed there were a lot of truce rules, and I was a little turned off by that. If you say that a lot of good players play there, then I would definitely be inclined to play as well.
It would be nice to see a tournament of some kind with some prize support. I wonder if any advertisers would be willing to give some consideration for renamed ports or nebula names... shudder to think... Sector 3000 in Pepsi Nebula - Port: Coca Cola II . . . It would probably ruin the game with fame. Or just make it crassly commercialized.
Speaking of which, is there a tournament *structure* out there? I mean are there rules written by someone--or official EIS tournament rules that outline how to win such a contest?
For example, a season of games that have official "weight" and give players victory points, or tournament rating points. The top players then play in an elimination tournament and then there is a final championship game. I'm sure there was something like this only a few years ago. Anyone have a copy of those rules?

Yes there is a tradewars league site where there used to be something like what you are talking about. It really hasn't been to active lately and from my brief glance right now looks as if some of the info posted on it is kinda old.
Here is the link to the site so you can check it out your self.

As for tournament style games I’d be real surprised to see any tournament games get started right now I really don’t think there has been enough interest in big torments or that there are currently any sysops that want to deal with the headache of trying to host a tournament right now. Give it a little time you might see something we could consider a tournament next year and also I might be completely wrong and we may never see another tournament again who knows.

Jher, im talkin outside of Big Game, have you seen all 18 in games recently? (last few months)??
if so, you are a liar and you aren't a liar
Ovid,
blacksun is having issues lately for some reason..
twkillers as far as i know only has a truce in 1 of its like 8 games. i believe game E...
about an EIS tourney... if you do a search i believe gypsy stated something a long time ago (like 6 months or so) about how EIS was going to start up a tourney for prizes. i think that kinda died out though.

Oh yeah, that's right.. the current number one player at TWKILLERS game "M" has a name that doesn't really allow me to play in that game. I know it is a 'joke' but even as a joke it is stupid.

Ohhh now I get it I wont tell you who I think it really is cause its not really worth bringing it up and i don't know the whole story behind why the person used that name.
Yea you will run into peeps like that in games some are worse then others you just got to kinda either block it out or just move on to another game. It's really to bad that some peeps have to be that way it really is.

ya, thats prestone, he's good at solo turn games, but he's a racist s.o.b. so just avoid solo turn games and you should be alright. you can goto http://www.twgs.org and call him names.

Okay, may not in the last few months, but pre Big Game, even the month or two before it.
But yah, not recently. I can't recall the whole list, but I think US is the only Active Player on that list really.

Slim is correct, not alot out there right now. On the other hand, you find a good edit (or stock) lower turn game, I'll get a corp together. If Chess runs, that will be another one.
