this is tradewars like, 15th wind just FYI. i suggest using google and checking out some of the old posts and sites about tradewars. everyone has always said twars is dying, and yet here we are still playing it heh, i googled "tradewars haggle" the other night. guess what was #1. nope, not EP/CK/Traitor/EIS.... it was some guy who had played 3 games and decided to put up a page about how to play tradewars heh. was humorous.

I agree TW is not going anywhere interest might fade a bit but it seems that people keep coming back to relive that experience they had back in the old BBS days.
Just for kicks her is a link to some history about TW
http://www.eisonline.com/twhistory/
Have you ever played Hunt the Wumpus? There is a server out there that still has the game online you will have to google it. Also you can still download Tradewars 2 with the Cabal. Funny stuff to see where this game started at.

L.O.R.D. is still out there. There are servers with multiple LORD games only. It was one of my first online games. Its a shame its so linear though. It gets dull fast.

That was my first real addiction too. Once upon a time I played L.O.R.D. obsessively on some big local boards (back when having more than 2 nodes was "big") until I started my own BBS. One of my earliest gaming 'rushes' was when I slaughtered someone online on a then huge four node system ("Partners for Peace" if anyone remembers them FidoNet or LinearNet).
Darn. I'm feeling all nostalgic now and almost wish there was a big red dragon somewhere on my MUD that I could go questing after.

It's not just people coming back either, new people are coming in picking it up, it really depends on time of year and the availability of games that promote newbs playing ie draft games. I got hooked on tradewars when i was 7 or so and watched over my dads shoulder playing on a BBS. It's a nice break from high intensity graphics. You get a pure "old school" flushed out game we're you have to outhink your competition. There will always be a need for a game like tradewars it may not always be tradewars but i think its die hards that have kept it alive. People who taught the now good players of today. Every village has it's idiot, and tradewars can seem to have quite a few at times, but they leave, then either come back serious or stay away. It'de be interesting to see a stat of for x amount of people leaving tradewars y are coming in, and z continue to play for years. If that could be done i think we'de all find tradewars loses people but gains them back, players across the board leave and players come in. And if tradewars is dieing i'm gonna enjoy it while it lasts, and i don't believe i'm the only one with this view either, if enough people take this attitude i believe there will always be new traders in this universe. Nothing lasts forever boys, lets all enjoy it while it's still here.

Tradewars is like this:
You start as a newb. Everyone does.
You then either quit cause you can't win or you start to learn.
You then either learn fast or learn slow.
You become a good player and have lots of fun.
The current elites who have always been better than you will retire.
You will rise up and become elite.
You will become arrogant and ***y.
You will lose interest in twars.
You will retire and new people will rise up and become the new elites of the day.
(And then you will periodically come back over the next few years, slowly finding out people are now better than you, so you finally quit for good, in grace, and at the top, before people notice, heh)
Slim
(waiting for people to retire....)
heh

i'm surprised ppl still play this game
i used to love it due to the strategy involved, it was like a constant game of chess, expecially when you were having a little war with another corp, constantly trying to out smart each other
i bailed a few years ago when scripts started to become mainstream, it began to feel like i was fighting a script instead of another player
i figured i'd check it out again and i havnt been able to find a server with more than a handfull of players i miss the old campusparty friday night unlimited games

its still very much strategy.
you have to:
A)figure out what kind of script they are using
B)figure out how to beat that script
C)wonder if they know you can beat it and if they have counter-measures.
game knowledge and speed at keys are still superior skills to the "greatness" of one's scripts.
also, camero... what did you use in those friday night unlims? i would hope atleast a wssm or else you couldn't compete.
if you are looking for players check vader's server around between 9-11pm central. heh.
if you are interested in a campusparty style deathmatch i'd be willing to set it up... but i'd rather have it else where so i can whoop on ya i quit before i became good enough to shine yer boots in 02... course now i own you hehe. (and no, i do not script)

eh, i agree its still about strategy in beating their scripts, but your still fighting scripts, so its more predictable, i like fighting people where their tactics change more quickly, its more of a challenge in my opinion
in the friday night unlims we never had to make money because everyone started with a ****load it was all fighting, it was pretty fun too
i probably wouldnt play another deathmatch like that again unless loki, bone collector, and the same crew from campusparty played again man that **** was fun
i'm just messin around right now, i doubt i'll get back into it like i used to
