I have been approached about setting up a game similar to one being done in another forum. Basically, its teams made up of 3-4 players, randomly selected. This is done to spread the teams out and give people a chance to play with different players than normal. What I need is feedback on 2 items: is there enough interest and what game settings (turns/sectors/edits/aliens). It WILL NOT be an unlim. If that's the only type of game that is of interest, I won't run it. Unlims don't last long enough for the effort put into it beforehand. This other game is 5k sectors and 500 turns with no aliens and not a lot of edits. Any interest/feedback?

If people wanted an unlimited game, then you can have a 24 hour truce or something to give everyone time to build. this will be hard, for they have to communicate with each other for the first time and get things figured out and get ready. Might be interesting.
all I have on that...
depending on when it starts, I'll play if I got time. sounds like fun

Nope, no unlims and no truces. Truces are a bane on the backside of TW.

heh
i like the concept (of the random teams), if another one bangs ill prob play
i think a faster paced game would be a good idea for summertime play
maybe 5k sectors, 800 turns, lowest tpw : 2, day 5 mobiles or less
higher attack odds on capital ships, weak(er) guardians, versatile red ships if applicable (twarp, photon, competitive fig count), dock attached to fed
or day 2 L4's, 2:1 fig production, pure blue game, heh that would be fun too

Truces are no different from any other sysop mandated (as opposed to game enforced) rule. They fall in the same category as duping, megacorping, spamming, etc. If the sysop has the will to properly enforce it, there is no problem with a truce.
In my opinion, Unlimiteds are the bane of tradewars.

Hi,
Suggested edits.
MBBS,
Ship edits. ISS 200 holds, CFS 130 holds 2 tpw, Starmaster 120 holds 2 tpw, Orion 70 holds 1 tpw. Battleship Twarp,Photons.
Planets 1/2 citadel time with L 0 days level 1. 1 planet 1:1 fig production.
These are only suggestions.
Thanx for the offer to run the game.

Something like the famine edits except MBBS, up port density and production rates a little maybe 500 to 800 turns or TW chess if you want a blue game with starting L4 planets and 1:1 fig production.
I might be interested in playing depending on when the game will open.
Just my .02

I like the random pick idea for corp members. Makes it possible for the weaker players to play. Wouldn't mind the traditional aliens or settings a little less favorable to the red player, that might improve the blue players ability to succeed. But overall, I love limited games and would play, even without the blue edits.

unlim truces=crap
aliens? heh=crap
games with random corpies=wtf why not, heh
i am assuming since this isnt like "the other game" and if you have a buncha people sign up for it, you arent going to know everyones skill level so its gonna be just a random corp throw together. i am going to guess that its not gonna work as well as the other game, but its worth a try

not too hard to judge someones skill at turn limited games
also
dont necessarily need to have a completely random throw together
a safe bet would be to do it like the lotto was supposed to be organized this year, with a designated 'captain' per corp, and the rest bein drawn at random

I think the urge to make unlimited turn games long building games is the bane of trade wars.

I think using Bane to describe anything in tw is the bane of tw.

Truces only help the evils anyway, by allowing them safe passage through Fed Space.
I think games with no aliens, designed to end in 3 hours are the "bane" of twars, be they unlimited turn or no, if their edits practically assure a game lock down in the first day or two, so much so that the Game op doesn't even bother to put aliens into the game. Those games are the bane of twars.
But that's just my opinion.
I also think that when it's all said and done "I" might very well be remembered as the "bane" of Twars
