I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could pick up an older copy of swath? I've been looking for 1.3.1 for a while now, and can't find it anywhere.
Thanks

i guess you want 1.3.1 cause you can use a crack on it (which for a prod like swath is bad form, imo) - either that or you want to play from behind a firewall that wont let u connect to the auth server

either way - you're better off using zoc/terra term/other telnet app together with an unregged copy of TWX - a version of swath that's more than 3 years old won't be that useful to you in current day TW, and doesn't have any of the features that currently make SWATH stand out vs. zoc/twx

The Firewall problem is not an issue in the 1.6 software. You simply need to contact swath, and Stein can set you up with a authentication for your computer that will allow offline mode. If it is for a crack, well, go find another helper.

Yeah, J-TWAT is free, no crack needed. If you do crack SWATH, someone may crack you upside the head. [;)]

J-TWAT seems awfully slow to me, at least the last time I tried it it was... Is it only meant for games with a warp interval?

Heh, I want to take this opportunity to tell you all that the problems I'm having with Swath are most likely Operator Error, coupled with Operating System errors! I attempted to run my scripts that aren't running right (with swath) using a standard telnet and guess what, same problems! (minus the blue screen thing).

My TWX scripts simply shut down, no matter how I run them!

This suggests to me that I simply do NOT know how to configure the scripts properly and MUST go do my "research" as Rick Mead put it.

Just wanted to throw that in.

I have missed your old postings in this forum about SWATH, but have catched up on them lately.

I am very disappointed about the accusations you make. As far as I know you haven't contacted us during the last month as you state. We always answer e-mails within 24 hours like 99% of the time. Also, your absence from the SWATH Support Forum speaks for itself. You also claim that you send us several crash reports every week. It happens to be like 1-2 crash reports/week in total for SWATH and not all of those comes from you...

The "World Explore" and "Ether Probe Explore" scripts are not implemented in 1.6 but will be in 1.7. I am sorry if Macahan told you otherwise, but he is not actively developing SWATH (and has not been for the last 5 years). He is mainly responsible for running the SWATH site and handle registrations etc.

I apprechiate that you finally admit that SWATH is not to blame for everything and I thank everyone that has tried to explain this to SGO. SWATH is not perfect, and the software protection which causes the startup problems etc. is not that good. Unfortunately, as this post started out, it is needed. I am going to change to a better one in a future release.

After all, many people use SWATH and find it to be a good helper for different reasons. The best way to tell if you like or don't like SWATH is to simply download and install it. Since you got a 30 day evaluation period, you can test it out for yourself.

The next version, v1.7, which is currently in beta testing will solve some of the problems still in SWATH, so I advice you all to check it out when it is released.

Best Regards
/Stein

Last time I tried it on an eval period it was still pretty useless as most of the features are turned off...so whats the point of having the eval period?

Stein, this is for you baby:
i tried swath long ago (eval) just wasnt my cup of tea
i am not going to bash it (i might in private, hehe) but you ARE actively doing things to HELP the twars community, and for that, i give you much respect. u say 1.7 will have a few things fixed (i tried it in 02, so i bet its probably alot different now) but as phx said, with the eval, most things are unavailable to use, so i cant really say if i would ever use it or not. if it was changed so it could be better tested with the eval, i would definantly download it and give it a second chance (id probably stick with what i got though, im old (22 hehe) and stubborn) but you never know :)
keep doin what you are doin

@PHX and Slim

Thank you for your input. Yes, the evaluation mode is limited in some ways, but not very much. All functionallity is actually available, but with some limitations which makes it harder to use:

- There is a 30 day time limit
- Scripts will abort after 100 executed commands
- Only one Java and one Rexx script is loaded
- Only one Macro is loaded
- The Visual Map has a limited range and only shows sectors
around sector 1 and StarDock
- The Sector, Port and Bubble Finder only shows 10 items
- The Find Nearest tool only shows 5 sectors
- SWATH announcements cannot be turned off

Which of these limitations do you find too restricted ?

PHX and Slim, I am not working and I am on disability with a family to support. Yet I managed to pay for a SWATH registration. If the SWATH demo was not restricted in some way, they would not earn any money. If you want good software, and it is not F/OSS (Free/Open Source Software) then you have to pay for it. The money you pay will go to make SWATH better in the future.

Me, I cannot wait for that WINE compatability mode so I can run SWATH in Linux. Just need a TWXProxy port to WINE as well. Then I won't worry about Windows Malware ever again and still play Tradewars. [:)]

Heh, I "wine" capability, is that a jumpgate for all the "whiners" like me?

Heh.

Stein, I gave up sending emails after I spoke to MacAhan on ICQ. I did not realize he wasn't actively participating in developement.

As for the crash reports, my swath has been automatically sending them at least once per week. I don't know why you didn't receive them.

I never started out to bash the software, just the way it seems to operate under win 98, and the "apparent" lack of support I've received.

In hindsight, I believe the posts were extremely unfair, however, I had just been busted running the SST script, busted for 50 holds because "you robbed here last time." I was livid, because I expected Swath to remember the port I last robbed, especially since I was using the SST script feature exclusively on that site.

I was mad, I was tired, I was in pain (long story). I got whimpery and whiney, and basically a lot of people told me to get a grip :)

I shouldn't have made the thread, I shouldn't have kept the post alive.

I apologize for what it's worth.

But you know, in twars, any "press" is good press, even "bad" press :)

well i chose not to "pay" for swath cause i didnt like it (this was 2 years ago). i am also stubborn and have used the combo i have now often and have my "butt groove" so to speak, set in. if i am going to go chair shopping, and am going to pay money, i would prefer to "sit" in the chair and get its true feel rather than just see it through a glass window and imagine how comphy it truely is after i buy it. i agree that the man does work, pay him for it. i am NOT a programmer, but i have tried out shareware programs before that you get the standard 30 day eval, and if u dont register it, you str8 up cant use it after day 30. even if you uninstall it and reinstall it (im sure if you monkey with the registry and such you could do it, but i try not to monkey with the registry too much) :) it wouldnt work. i think most people who enjoyed the program and who would use it would pay for it, i for one would try it out in some test games, see how it handles, and if i liked it, id buy it, and if not, id go back to my old tried and true methods :)
