Just to answer a question asked, not to disaprove of your point of view, I am not mathmatically gifted enough to break down numbers percentage-wise. There are kids who play. I can think of three, I also think they rely on someone to tell 'em what goes on here..
I do not know their parents, nor what kind of systems or filtering software they use. I do know that of those 3, 2 do not like being labled as kids and do not like to discuss their age. The other I am just not sure if he/she cares or not...
Hey using those numbers (3) 66% care and 33% do not, but this is probably a real small portion of the overall group of players...

These forums are an official part of the company EIS. As such, having a forum that is rude or crude does not reflect positively on the company. These forums are primarily intended for support. We allow things other than just support posts, but we do not want to allow things that are terribly offensive.

I'm with EIS on this one. It's their company website and forums and such "Smack Talk" does not fit properly. As Adults, I'm sure we can re-word our sentences to be a little competive without crossing the lines of being inmature or using bad language. I find, most of the time its the younger population of 18 and under using such language, but then again their are some adults out there that have tons of *'s in their sentences. This is EIS's way of saying, we no longer want that image on our website, and as a player I respect that.
Now, that leads into another section... There are plunty of other websites out there and they all have forums... As soon as twedits.com comes back up, im sure there will be a topic in their for smack related topics [:D]

I agree with that statement. A corporate website controls the content on it. Otherwise you make your own forum... That's your recourse if you don't like it.

I'm an offender in this arena (I made a german shepherd comment to someone that was completely unnecessary and ridiculous). I would have had no problem with Rick or Harley deleting it (even though it was smack talk area) and telling me "look this is Eisonline don't talk trailer trash in here."
That's their right! Yet, in my defense, my comment was MILD in comparison to some of the stuff I've seen in smack talk of late. (But that's no excuse).
I agree that we are the adults, we have to consider our words when speaking in a public forum, and I also agree that this forum is for EIS support issues primarily. It's a shame when John Pritchett is leary of posting here, or even reading the posts because of the "nature" and demeanor of what's going on here!
I've been banned twice here, and both times it was justified (I didn't see it at the time but now I do).
I just wanted to say that I think the changes made to this forum area are positive, and show a great deal of class and professionalism. In fact, Rick Mead himself has shown a tremendous amount of professionalism and patience in his postings of late (even when he's making fun of me).
I believe that most of us here can live with the new rules. The ones who can't, well, it's only a matter of time before you find yourself unable to post here, and that's your choice.
As for me, I know I can do it, and what's further, if I'm insulted here and personally attacked I intend not to retaliate in kind, but will keep my cool and attempt to refute the attacks with intelligent mature responses.
I think that's all the EIS team is asking for, and if you can't do it, your posting priviledges probably should be revoked.

i don't think anyone was questioning eis's right to moderate their forums
personally, i was humored at the thought of someone learning to cuss from a TW forum
but thats also all i was commenting on

You also have to look at what this world is coming to. People are sueing because they're stupid and have no common sense! Having a forum for such talk leads players to feel safe about what they say and over time, things will get worse and "maybe" one day something way extrememe will be posted and someone will act on it. I'm sure EIS is just trying to prevent this from happening and covering their backs. I don't think they can afford a dumb law suit over something so little and dumb. so its best to avoid what they can...
It's not like we need smack talk forums anyways, Just do it in the game at the heat of the moment and pod them! [:D]

I don't know of any 13 year olds now that play. I don't ask ages, color, religeon etc. I ask/watch how they play. But... In 92 when i ran a BBS, I was very suprised to find the majority of peeps playing TW were under 18, and one was def 13. All were males. Btw, he aspired to be a brain surpeon. Dunno if he did tho...

DISC LAMER ! If you read beyond this paragraph of my post you agree that I cannot be held responsible in any way for what you do thereafter. If you feel compelled to do stoopid things when some person you do not know tells you to it is recommended that you do not continue reading this post.
Heh...every kid in here 14 and younger go jump off a bridge!
But no really... Kids are as likely to pick up any new words off these forums as they are to follow the above direction. At the same time, it is EIS's right to try and maintain some professionalism on their forums.
As to the original topic of this thread......heh.

hmm, jasper's comment has me thinking.. i started played this when i was about 10 years old, with all of my other 10-14 year old friends. i remember on one BBS my friend posted "the poop list" (a list of all different poops)(he was 10) and he posted it on the BBS (he found it on a different BBS) and the next day he was banned. we later found out he accidentally posted it in a political forum, heh. this also lead to my thinking of how many young people really are playing twars today. certainly i dont think any young player is "good" compared to any decent older player, as most older players have been playing almost as long as the kids have been alive. but it does have me thinking, all the new people i see and help.. i wonder how old they are? i now see my difficulty in helping some people as maybe they are younger and i am explaining things at a level they maybe dont understand yet. i think from now on any new people i meet i will open a game soley for them on the BBS i tw-op at and let them learn as we all did, which will maybe help more. (as they wont have to worry about getting adj pdroped first hour, heh) i think ya i will do that, and i will play in it myself (as a helper/teacher only) it will be a NON-competitive game, and if anyone else wishes to maybe play, and take a few people under their wings in game and help with basics, i will definantly encourage that. i will also open a game maybe for people to practice using scripts etc.. or other various things that will have NO competition and tedit will be used if asked for. i will make a new post for people to see if anyone is interested..

Not many I agree...one I remember was a young player named Sir Lancelot who decided to reply with his own flames using a lot of 4 letter words when he was flamed and was flamed in return by other players threatening to take away his F and S buttons. His mother walked in while he was replying and it could have gotten quite nasty. He also had a crew of other players about his age that were reading threads and replying.

I was young when i started playing this game. These days though I don't see many 10-14 year olds giving up their PS2, X-Box, Gamecube, or any number of online computer games for a text based game that they would have to THINK to play.
LokI is powering up weapons systems!
