Offtopic: I think the Scorpion is a better ship, personally... but I'm thinking you like the color scheme of the Hellstorm Assault. Kind of matches your "OB" colors. [:D]
Oh, and it'll be down for a couple hours tonight because I'm moving. Should be pretty fast though.

I need to capture a Ferrengi Dreadnaught to capture a Scorpion. Haven't had any fig hits for Dreadnaughts yet.
Why yes the colors do match.
Maybe with the faster speeds, you can get more players. I think some of the other players quit because of the lag. Except for TW55 who lost his net access for a while.

Bandwidth isn't what's causing my lag... it's one of the gold alien servers (hoping to fix this soon... check out http://www.eisonline.com/twforum/topic. ... C_ID=12012 for info).

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the last time I logged in, the game seemed like I was on a dialup BBS again..300 baud at that...oops, told my age.

Yes it took me hours to complete one ptrade/megarob cycle. I had to go to sleep and wake up to finish the buydown scripts.
I hope you fix it, aliens can be an annonyance. Last game they "Seagulled" one of my bases and kept getting killed by my Q-Cannons.

As a network engineer, it's my opinion that if you are hosting anything, SDSL is the way to go.
It's a business line, so there's no downtime. I've got a couple hundred clients on SDSL, and very few of them have ever seen any downtime... ever. If you want upstream speed greater than 384k, your only choices are SDSL or T-1, which are essentially the same thing except for pricing. SDSL is synchronous, so the bandwidth is available up or down. $105 for 384k, $155 for 768k, $215 for 1.1Mbps, $275 for 1.5Mbps. It is significantly cheaper than a full or fractional T-1, and considerably more upstream and reliability than ADSL or Cable. And ofcourse no ports are blocked. I can pull some strings and get you some discounts if you want, so send me a private message if you're interested. That goes for any of you in the TW communtity... especially since it'll make a better server for me to play on too. Heh, alot of you need to hurry.

I agree. I used to be an Network Engineer (evolved a bit since then -- just kidding), and had more than a few customers on SDSL with some pretty good uptime. However a lot of it depends on your carrier and other conditions which may limit DSL at times. My office would lose its SDSL connection at least once a week, but was usually in the middle of the night and never seemed to last that long.

Well SDSL is beyond what I can afford to pay. I am not working and my wife won't allow over $50USD for an Internet connection. Maybe after I graduate and start up a business and start earning some money I can afford a SDSL line.
Until then, my plans for a DSL server will have to wait. Unless I can find a reasonably priced DSL carrier that offers me to run a server as well on a dynamic IP in my area.

Sucks to be me, I cannot find a DSL plan under $100 for my area. Except for the current SBC ADSL plan I have. Yet I was told:
quote:
After checking your address and phone number it appears that only IDSL is available to you because your phone lines are made out of fiber. ADSL and SDSL need copper pairs to run the signal.
Funny my SBC DSL equipment is for ADSL and it still works? Is this some sort of scam the DSL companies are trying to pull? My phone lines in my house are still made out of copper and I never saw any phone company people upgrading the outside lines in my area.
So either I:
Pay $100 a month or more for IDSL
Stick to SBC ADSL for $30 a month.
Try to talk my wife into removing the drywall in the basement so they can put in a cable line to my computer area to install a cable modem. She is against that idea. Cable Contractors refused to remove the drywall, not in their union rules to do so, so I would have to hire another contractor to remove the drywall.
I hate satelite Internet as the signal can go out so quick due to rain or snow.

Couple of things.
1. No internet service in the US currently gives anyone a static IP unless they pay for it. All of them have DHCP setup on the home side and, as I suspect in your case, they intentionally will drop your DHCP lease and force you to use another IP address.
2. Linksys wireless routers are horrible. Considering that Cisco bought them out I tried the wireless g router and had nothing but problems.
I currently use Cox Cable in the D.C. area and I've had the same IP for 5 months...even through power outages since I keep my router on an UPS. However, I know that Verizon in this area will drop a person's computer if they have the IP for more than 15 days. At least they used to.
As for your router, I've used both Dlink and Linksys and haven't liked either. One of the problems I had with the Linksys is that it was overly sensitive to one of my neighbors phones. Each time she called someone from her bedroom it reset the router. Spent a weekend trying to track down the problem and we walked all over her house until we figured it out. I finally went to the Netgear MR814 and I have had no problems with my wireless. Currently have that hung off of a FVS318 VPN firewall and it works great. It's a b instead of a g, but it's great for now.
Suggest you check your ip over a period of time and see how often it changes, if it does change. Sounds to me, from what you've said, that you company is trying to keep people from using services like dynamic dns and forcing them to go to static ip's. Ran into the same thing out in Seattle with a DSL company that made my friend switch to cable.
There's my 4 cents worth. Shoot me an email if you want to. I do this kinda stuff all the time

Well due to lack of a decent DSL company that charges an affordable rate, I went back to SBC for another year. They made me an offer of $29.99 a month, and the cheapest rate from other DSL companies was like $70 or more a month for a dynamic IP using iDSL. I got told that ADSL is not available in my area anymore, yet my SBC equipment is for ADSL and seems to work except for the loss of service sometimes and the blocking of server access. So I gave up on the idea of running a server for another year. Maybe other DSL companies will have affordable rates by then?
