Yeah doc, otherwise rev woulda been dead 2 days ago =\ I am sure it SENDS the amount to attack with, based upon fighters, but doesn't take odds into consideration, I've had 10k figs a few times, and ran into 25-30k offensive fighters, and been able to warp out, with about 800 figs left. Not sure how the math is based.. I'm not a fan of it though.
I think it is still based on ((maxfigs+maxshileds)*1.2) for the wave..
So if you have a ship with 10k sheilds and 5k figs.. then a sector with 20k offensive figs would launch 18k at him.. If his odds are greater than 1.2 then he'll survive and can retreat&reload

I think it is wrong..
First it sounds like your playing on your own server, That's a nono..
Second it sound like your using tedit to change peoples resources, Real big nono since your in the game!..
Then I have to say that having the gold figcrunchers going is not a good idea (JP needs to fix them)..
But yes, I think this sounds like a newbie board and like you too have no idea about how this game should be played. Going into TEDIT to make the game feel better for players means that the game itself cant manage to kepe the players happy.
Please feel free to add another .98c
Another 2 cents
I DO play Tradewars on my own server. I bought my reg codes from JP in 2000 maybe 2001, in all that time I have never ONCE been accused of cheating, not once. I have accomplished this feat by, tada, NOT CHEATING. As far as I am aware, that, and a couple of milliseconds are the main arguements against sysops playing. I've had my Butt handed to me more than once, its humbling, but part of the game. It also helps that I know all my players personaly, and have GM'd most of them at one time or another. They trust me with thier characters, most of which they have spent months and sometimes years developing. If and when I decide to build a dedicated machine, and rent a higher bandwidth internet connection, I may open my server to the general public. At such time I will bang games I don't play, and label them so.
And another 2 cents
Part of the appeal of actualy purchasing the codes was the ability to play the game the way I wanted to play it. with my edits, with my ideas. My players want to play the game thier way, if they want to play tradewars differently all they have to do is ask. If they want to play competitively, and with the tradewars community at large. There any MANY very good servers out there. These servers run games from newbie to ultra-advanced. There are many very skilled players out there willing to teach. Im not holding them back, I'm not telling them they can't, heck I even provide links to the tradewars community at large.
And another 2 cents
Yes, I use TEDIT to run a script that can potentialy affect player resources, with the full knowledge and consent of said players. I also use TEDIT to run a wandering planet script. If I had had an objection I wouldn't do it. Futhermore use TEDIT to edit ships, planets, aliens ( OMG, I use ALIENS ,shudder ), and prices at SD. Mind you NOT during an active game.
And another 2 cents
Who made you the judge of the way the game "should" be played? Are you the Captian of the TradeWars Police? Are you the God of Tradewars? Are you gonna come to my house and make me run the game YOUR way? Are you gonna call my players and tell them that the game they enjoy playing with thier friends is all wrong, and they should be spanked?
What's that 90 cents left?

Shrug,
He did give his opinion, as far as I'm concerned, you paid for it, you run it the way you see fit, as long as your players know your playing, it shouldn't matter..
In MY opinion, it's not a board I'd like to visit.. I'm sure alot of players would feel the same. I've said it before, there are very few sysops I personally trust to play their own games, and you sir, are not one.

Kill him Orion

I think I scared him away, I dropped a ton of figs in the sector and destroyed all the figs he left behind. I am playing a red, so I am making some decent credits, not as much as I could but enough to outcash him. He is a FedSafe blue, so I cannot kill him unless he was online as the same time as me.
I had a bad run of red scripting today, kept getting busted. Lost a lot of exp.
I am not sure what GSS is yet. Maybe one day I can learn that from you.

Of course not, trust, like respect, is always earned, never given blindly.
I just wanted to point out that not everyone plays the game the same way. Those that aren't in the mainstream of the game, still have ideas to contribute, and something to bring to the table. Your way, isn't the only way, etc.
I get tired, when as soon as someone says something that is not considered "The way it should be!" That person gets slamed and told he dosen't know his butt from a hole-in-the-gound. Just because that person has different ideas about the game.
If I open my server to the general public, I will run mainstream games, under current accepted practices. Any games that are not will be crearly labeled as such.
Bottom line, are the players having fun? If they are not, then they can talk to me and changes will be made. If I don't want to make changes, they can vote with thier feet. If they want to learn the game "your way" (generic term, not directed at you Graz) then I sure there are many players happy to teach, and many servers for them to learn on.
TradeWars and Burger King, you CAN have it your way. (blasphemy! I'm sure)

Hey Prinz and Tchiak. I understand completely where you're coming from. In fact, I thought pretty much the same thing only a few months ago and even started my server out (for myself and some friends) with a similar setup. I didn't run any TEDIT scripts but all the players did agree to a "Gentleman's Agreement" on how we wanted to play TW. Most of my players at that time were also avid tabletop gamers and RPGers and they enjoyed that aspect of the game -- but after a while, the lack of true competition caused a loss of interest in the game.
After opening the game up to more modern players (that were willing to teach instead of simply destroying us), my appreciation of the game in it's current status has grown tremendously. So, while I'm not saying you two should completely abandon your ideas on how the game would best be played, I do think you might enjoy the modern version if you give it a little time and effort.

Dont be getting all american on me here, Assuming the worst from other people just because they express their views.. Notice that my stuff usually starts out with "I Think" and that's what I think..
I have played games your ways and "I Think" they are ****..
If you ever open your server up after your tabletop buddys have a year or so on your server then "I Think" they'll just crumble and say hell no..
"I Think" that you games could possibly be corrupt too (using tedit during games is known to cause data corruption), Granted it probably wont because I would imagine that you guys dont have ppl playing 24-7 (or scripting for that matter)..
And Finally, It's private as to who I spank, and as to Why I spank them.

LOL, you do understand! Opnions and attitudes are different for different people. I wasn't jumping down your throat specifically. I was off on a generalized rant.
I now step, humbly, down off my soapbox. <G>
