I beg to differ, I have played Role Playing Games for the past 25 years. There is a winner, because usually the DM/GM sets a goal or mission to complete. If you complete it, you win, if you don't you lose. Somewhere along the way you get a bit of fun in.
Our group currently plays Traveller http://www.farfuture.net/ and we are Gentlemen of opportunity. Sometimes if the situation warrants it, we are merchants, mercenaries, pirates, spies, bounty hunters, businessmen, thieves, henchmen, or maybe we make enough money to open and operate a casino. Sometimes these is a goal or mission, but we have too much fun killing people, robbing banks, getting into fights, etc and forget about the goal and mission. Sometimes we backstab people and take their money, other times we do the mission and get cheated and then turn around and blow up their office/car with them in it. You would not last in one of our games, as you are a Doctor Who type who doesn't believe in violence or carry weapons.
Orion Blastar is the name of one of my best Space Pirates, nuked two redneck backwards planets and robbed some banks and hijacked a countless number of ships. Got half the Imperium fleet after him, so he went into Non-Imperial space and did piracy there.

Desktop warriors, lol... Your pathetic, with your pathetic server, running off a pathetic "backbone" Honestly, the term desktop warrior would apply to you, sir.
Dungeons and Dragons is the ultimate (will always be the ultimate) role playing game, now.. If D&D didn't have a winner, how the flying monkey could they hold world championships with a pot of over 500k? To the comment of existence, sir, your board has been up a total of what, 2 weeks? There are servers that have been opened 3 weeks, and have a constant connection rate of 10-14 users. You don't get popular defending yourself against stupid accusations, you get popular by running fair, unbiast games- (That should be a given, and I swear to god they need to make a TWGS users manual to explain "noob sysop behavior")
How could you have possibly been playing since before I got off the tit? Mr. Jackass, most of us that have replied to you, have been playin since 81-85. Please, become knowledgeable about your opponants before you put your Butt in your mouth.
You are currently reading a post from "The Crusader" and I will crush you, stomp you, and bloody your faggot Butt, even flog you if I must. My goal is to crush any living, breathing, celeron using POS I run across, don't tread on me. (I bite.)
"Move on, our server isn't interested in you."
I'm sorry, did we give any indication that we gave a flyin monkey about your server? Grow the flying monkey up, fore' I go postal on your Butt.
Until then, Good day.. Sir.

Well, I see you don't mind letting your simplemindedness, and true ignorance shine right through do you. Go back to sleep while the big boys continue their conversation. My guess is you haven't left the front of your computer, or your mothers couch/basement in several years. Thats about what it takes to build such an anti social need as to destroy new players, run game busting scrips, etc. The fact is, keep your power gaming to yourself, I'll mention again, our server is not for you. And, lol, as you scoff at our backbone connection, your playing on a cable modem out of some other schmo's parents basement. I'd suggest you do your homework Gritz, I'm certainly no desktop warrior, I most certainly have more experience, qualifications, and obviously more class and tact. In fact, I take this game very lightheartedly, unlike most of you obviously, and enjoy it as a game. I don't mind playing in my own games, and I don't care if you think I'm cheating. I'm not, and I know I'm not, never have, the only reason people have had a problem with that is because we've obviously picked up some real children playing this game, thanks for proving that point. As for your name calling, you really demenstrate your inability to be thoughtful and considerate in your reply. So, flame on, its good for little other than some mildly amusing ignorance.
LOL

What a punk. Grow up, get a job, get a life. This game is just way to much for your infantile temperment.
I suggest you go postal Gritz, atleast it will get you off your mothers couch.

Yea, time to move on, now your just trying to antagonize. Don't use racial slurs, it just shows how much of a truly ignorant person you are. Take a little of your own advice about the spellchecker cupcake. I take this pretty lightheardedly, and even in fact enjoy this little bantor, even when your bored children can be amusing. Boy, kids do say the darndest things don't they. Here, this might help you get in perspective.

The word is lightheartedly my friend.
Point of order: If you weren't a cheater, then you would have no need to defend yourself against "bantor", also, you wouldn't be posting in these forums in your own defense, the players of your board would accually stand up for you.
Since you feel your being slandered by a child, why not do the adult thing, and shut the trap. Or you can in fact answer the questions that were posed 'before you.
Simple query's seldom have simple answers it seems.
Do you smoke pot?
Uhh, your childish, and trying to antagonize me.
Nigger, stfu, and get a job cuz I'm running out of w33d

This thread is just toooo good to miss..
I dont know what's worse, the op who doesnt understand that this isnt a ORPG like many muds are.. Or the players who dont understand the Ops position.
There are tons of newbie servers with **** players out there (much like the one this guy says he runs) and if it's the first one that you guys played on then lesson learn'd. The game does have seperate class ratings, you have the people who play it like a buisness (outcash, destroy enemy, take enemy posessions and add to owns wealth) and there are people who play it like a weekend sexfest. Bottom line is.. the Op plays there, The server is made for newbie chatters (ie no cimhunt, no defensive figs, leave your quasars off, dont drop mines).. and that's all that someone needs to know.
If this server is in the twleague then it should be removed as it isnt in line with what the twleague was formed to be.
That's my View on it all (but please dont stop *****ing)

Finally got a chance to reply to all this. As I was in game, I can only comment on what I saw. While I won't take as heavy a stance as some, I do disagree with the sysops actions, but they are his own.
1.) There was some smack talk from one of my corpies, and I can imagine that people who play on very closed servers don't see that and could have been offended. To my knowledge that smack talk didn't start until a co-sysop logged in and called us cheaters.
2.)We were cheaters because we had 700k figs in an unlim game after 8+ hours. Not to be honest, I think you aren't doing to hot if you don't have that kind of figs after that long with 4 players. Regardless, he told us he had been playing 10+ years, but didn't know was SDT was. Now I don't mind someone asking me how I did it, but accusing us of cheating, when co-sysops and sysops are playing, that seems a little far fetched. Out of curiosity, anybody know of a way without tedit access.
3.) The sysop did seem offended when I asked if anything had changed, when I noticed we had almost gotten through the ore on an alien planet, than we wipe out some people, only to come back to suddenly 2.5M offensive figs in space seemed strange, when 3 hours earlier there were none. But I accepted that the server had some setting that did that.
4.) Banning players is the preference of the sysop, and his right. To be honest, the reason for banning was what bothers me. We actually asked the sysop what we could do. He said don't attack new players. We could invade. Now we did it, and suddenly we are ruining the game. I know there are some servers that way, and that is people's choices to run them, but not posting it seems really wrong.
5.) I don't know the truth of it but one player said that the sysop had edited an alien planet earlier when he was getting close to taking it. So I can't say whether true or not.
6.) I was told by players that the sysop expected an unlim game to last months. The sysop had stated a month or two. Personally, I can't understand that at all. How can an unlim game last that long? Only way is if nobody fights.
7.) Scripts. Now unless there were some people who were incredible at keys, they had to be running worldtrade and scripts to kill figs in space. So exactly what scripts are allowed?
8.) The sysop and group seem to enjoy the older generations of TW, and that is fine. I completely agree, that the server should probably be a closed server for those people. Sadly many of them will never get a chance to grow better and play elsewhere, unless they learn to play in competitive games.
9.) If we offended the Sysop, than I apologize. I know one of my corpies got pissed and may have been offensive. But to be honest, we were accused of cheating in a game that sysops play. That is a pretty big insult, especially without any proof. So in the end I apologize, and truly wish we hadn't shown up to ruin your game.
10.) I would highly advise people to stay clear of the server, while it seemed very fast, it is not what most people that I have seen in this forum are looking for. There are tons of servers that have the competitive game that many of us enjoy.
That is all, just wanted to get something covered on this all, since I was AFK during the banning, and had to read scroll back of what happened.
As a side note, if there are gameops that run servers like this, could you post this somewhere in forums, or some very obvious place? I would like to know before I check out a server what type of games it runs.
Best of luck to everybody on the server,
Jhereg

Well Mr sysop, That is a an elite player, with class. You opened up the game for all to play, then when they played GAME you got upset. Becareful what you ask for , sometimes it is what you get. A very Good Sysop I know Does not allow kill scripts Dragon Tails, Funonthe.net. (server temp down).
I dont agree with that but when I played ther I held to the rulz, because I knew in advance what they were. and he never played on his server. It is only common sense for a sysop not to play. Its all been explained why.
only time it is aceptable is 1. it is announced game X is played by sysop, most players wont play, if they do they know what there against. 2. test game, checking out edits, working on scripts and practicing situations. also made clear. 3. Closed Game.
Just my opinon. and I think you owe Jhereg an apolgy. He is an awesome player and not a cheat, I have faced him and corped with him. Your in a new area, TRADE WARS, not a mud or Mush game. Read here and Learn, talk to other sysops we have some real good ones visit here.

Well TW55, that's exactly what won't happen. This op won't learn from anyone here. He has determined that we all are scum and don't play this game fairly. What he doesn't realize, he's looking at TW through the eyes of other games. If he's still reading, please consider what TW55 just said and stick around. Read these forums and get a feel for how TW players play TW. Not how MUD players play TW. Few of us if any play MUD or MUSH games. TW is just a different enviroment. Good or bad as you see it. TW can be a wonderful game. Good luck to ya sir.

This is Wildstar's 2 cents.I believe if you make a game and have someone else host it,its ok to play as long as you share game info, planet specs, best ship, ect. But never ever ever play on your own server and if you do post it on the splash screen so people know so they have a choice to play or not.
That's Wildstar's opinion.

Since i witnessed some (probably just a fraction) of what happened in this incident, i am going to add to the posts. I don't think i really can say much because i am new to the game and i am still forming my opinions on some of the subjects brought up by all of you. On the other hand, i am very qualified to tell you how i feel about the subject.
I have seen several of you guys (and gals) on various servers. I first played trade wars a couple of years ago, and i liked it. For several reasons i quit playing. One of the reasons was that it got so frustrating to me to learn. It seemed that just when i started to actually get somewhere in a game, the screen would flash a few times, and i would be looking at a mostly black screen with the signon options. Well, i can't speak for some of you experienced players, but frankly I don't learn jack from that experience. At that time, I had other things in my life demanding my attention, and i just quit signing on. Eventually, i forgot what little i knew about JTWAT and TWX, and one day while housekeeping the computer, i trashed all the folders.
Lately, and i don't know why, i wanted to try it out again. The game concept is really good, in my opinion, and i decided to give it another try. So, i started looking up and downloading all i could find which would help me play the game again.
Well, to shorten the story, I know people on both sides of this issue, and frankly, i think most of them are "good people". I am not going to mention names, but recently i was invited into a corp playing on one of the popular servers. Now that was an experience. I cannot begin to tell you how much i learned about the game and how much fun I had. There were people telling me how to do stuff, and covering my butt, when i did something incredibly stupid, which us noobies do. And, of course i could see how some of the tactics unfolded. You know who you are. Thanks guys.
Other than that, though, my progress has been slow. On games with really good players, i last an average of five minutes, depending on how much of the universe has trip figs. So, i decided that i wouuld try to find a "board" where the action was, shall we say, not so intense.
Well, you know where that was, I think. In conclusion, the corp came, saw, conquered. It took about 9 hours, maybe more, maybe less. I can't speak for the other players on the game, but i for one, liked it better before the corp came here. No offense. Maybe some of you tw jocks may be able to understand how i feel if you imagine shooting a few hoops with Michael Jackson. Get it? Now try to imagine how much you would enjoy playing the game (and i don't mean what you would feel about being with MJ).
So, I had an input, probably very small, in what happened. I am not into trying to say somebody was an Butt, or somebody was in the right, or anything. And I would like to stay on a friendly basis with whoever wants that in the future. I just wanted to get my point of view up here, cause i was not seeing much more from people who felt like I did.
See ya
Wolf

Hey Wolfstory, see my post on the other thread. I had stated I am willing and happy to help people out in a game if they ask. If you have a game and corpies, and need help, send me an ICQ 85268815. I'm glad to hear you are looking to learn, which is what the game is about. So good luck, and buzz me on ICQ at some point (or yahoo, since I think you have that).

Bottom line is that the sysop(if he only wanted noobs to learn or have a light envirnment) should have either one posted it stating that this was a learning game or two made it a closed game to where only he could add the peeps he wanted to
Thats Strider's Opinion
