Umm,
I have seen games listed on servers where the description included "for Newbies only", I just can not recall where.
If players are interested in this sort of game, I am certain there are sysops who will set a game up for it...
If not, send me mail and I will steer you towards servers that will do it or have games like this already...

Our TWGS is a 4-node system and is mainly for newbie players. We clearly have 2 games identified- one called General and one called Beginner. The Beginner is obvious, and the General is also for newbies but has alien races in it. That's it.
If it helps other sysop's to have a link to newbie games, send them to us at:
http://www.mk-tek.com/tradewars/tradewars.html
I'll gladly send the more experienced players that want a real challenge to you if you send me your link. You can also e-mail us at twgs@mk-tek.com.

My memory is not fuzzy in the least.. I may be old, but I am not senile. You were the one who shipmailed me, demanding that I concede to you. Why should I complain about your blockade when it did not affect me? And yes, your memory is fuzzy. I had entered the game, hoping that playing against players of your caliber would help improve my game.. I do love playing cat and mouse, and had done pretty good with it for those 5 days. At no time did you post any such annoucement - at least nothing that I saw. As I was one of the last active players (only 5 days into the game... the game was open for 7 days), you *assumed* I was just going to concede because you demanded it. You were the one whining and complaining that playing such a game was boring and tedious. I would have been happy to continue and give you something to hunt down, but you prefered otherwise.
Once I figured out that you were not in the game, but just running a keep alive script at the menu, I had little problem in playing. The game did have a time limit, or you would have been in the game on a kill script, I am sure.
Maybe this will jog your memory:
"> While it may be enjoyable for you to hone your skills running and
> hiding, it's somewhat tedious for us to continue playing a game that
> has no real threat. As long as you are playing this game will
> continue. If you want to continue, that's your option. Were this not
> a league game I would just quit playing knowing I had dominated.
> However, so be it."
Hmmm... odd the things you save. Must really be getting old.
I wish I had bothered to save the email message you sent me (remember taking it out of the game to send me email?) I agree, after you responded that you didn't want to conceed, that you wanted to play "cat and mouse," I explained to you why I thought you should conceed. Perhaps you posted the wrong quote, because no where in there do I "demand" you conceed. In fact, I made it quite clear that as long as you wanted to keep playing, we would too. If you post your parts of the conversation, we will see you complaints derogatory remarks about the fed blockade. Something along the line of "any idiot can do that, they're lame."
Really, this all just goes to prove my initial point, until you can say that you're innocent of doing it, you're really not the one to tell people not to berate others.

I appreciate all the support here. I was more blowing off steam than anything here. I sure had to hold back on that email reply. You will very rarely hear me cuss or be in a rotten mood due to TW. But it does happen.
BTW I now have a newbie game up as well.

It's the same old story. A player doesn't understand how they get located minutes after they run their WorldSSM script, or doesn't know what grimying is, or doesn't know how port subtraction works, or whatever, and naturally, they accuse the sysop of cheating.
That's not to say the some sysops don't cheat, but Jerry definitely isn't one of them, nor are most of the other prominent sysops in the community. The sysops that cheat get figured out pretty quickly by most players, and they end up with empty servers.

Jerry is one of the honest person and nicest that i've ever meet. He's hosted many great games without asking for anything back, and i would like to thank you for that Jerry. I would trust Jerry to host any game, any day, i would trust him if he said that he didn't cheat and the newbie exp was bigger than 1,000. Newbies can go on and say whatever they want about SysOps cheating. The proofs is right in front of them in the logs. If they don't believe that then you should just ignore them. Again many thanks for the games that you've hosted Jerry! keep up the good work!

Jerry is one of the nicest Sysops I have had to interact with. He is extremely dedicated to his server and by judging the skills of the players he attracts at coastgames, it would be hard to believe that he is running this quality TWGS by cheating.

Of all the sysops I have known Jerry has always been one of the ones that you could not incite to a frenzy and cause to interfere with a game. Coastgames is always my first choice for a fair game to play in where cheaters are highly discouraged. Without a doubt any newbie that should make such a case against him or his server should be banned from all servers to prevent others from having to deal with such a dishonest person has he who makes these kind of statements due to a lack of knowledge. Perhaps all the oldtimers out there should make it a point to take this young buck over there knee......

The only issue I have with a newbie game (and one reason I don't have a strict one) is that anyone can say they are a newbie, and just play to stroke their egos. I have seen it happen all too often. If the spirit is right, and the more experienced players will take the true newbies under their wings, then it is an awesome site. There is no way to control it...
What I have tried to do is pair up a newbie with a more experienced player as a mentor if not corpie. Most of my guys that went to the BOTE have taken on at least one student. They don't do it from the attitude of being a pro - we are miles from that. It is more show them the basics and get them into a comfortable place with how the game works. It is actually something I wish I had more time for.. having other sources will help these players develop. Thanks, Guardian, Oldtimer, and Severian... and yes, Stardock Omega will host newbie play if needed, though we are pretty laid back as it is.

I just played in a game with Zentock, Intrepid, GHpint over in coastgames... The game ran very smoothly, I am very impressed.
In fact, coastgames has gone through the pain of setting up a system to keep dupers out. No doubt a lot of work.
Ill definately be going back to coastgames when I finish some of my other games.
Keep up the good work!
