So that all being said, the only reason to post warpspecs is so EVERYONE can have a 100% ZTM...and the truth of the matter is, 99% of the time it's not needed.
Actually I have several scripts that depend on a ZTM, not necessarily a 100% accurate ZTM, but the map is still required. A ZTM is needed for hunting, adjacent sector and anticipation attacks and any decent planet trade script. A ztm is also needed for twx to calculate distances of fig hits to a given location (corpies running SDT for instance).
I do agree with Akor to some extent in that posting a ZTM would help speed up deciding where to put a base, but getting a map is also part of the game.

IMHO...I see any game where it is known that a map from latest rebang seed is posted then kiss my royal butt as it heads to a site
where things have to be discovered in a normal fashion... twas hard enough losing the argument a few moons back about folks posting game edits instead of letting folks explore and learn rather than info being handed to everyone on a 'silver salver'!

Harley, all I can say is I must be playing on servers with tighter bandwidth constrictions. I can only imagine what would happen with 100 users. Too bad there aren't many of those around anymore...
As for information being handed to you. As long as it's handed to everyone equally, no advantages are really given. It changes the nature of the game, but provided that everyone adapts to the change... it shouldn't be any easier. Of course in reality most people don't adapt to change very well or atleast make use of the new information in a competitive way.
Which brings up something. It seems that a 0-day ztm would make it easier to start a base, but wouldn't also make it easier to probe on the first day? As it stands now, in a limited turns game, wouldn't it just slow you down about 6 hours (20k game) while you'd normally be afk? What would be the impact of something like that? On day 1, day 3, day 10...?

You're not ready to probe until the time it takes to ztm anyway, at least in a turn limited game.

How limited of turns are you talking? I've been in quite a few games where people (myself included) probe before a ztm. Granted, it's not a 500 turn stock edit...
What would the impact be of posting warpspecs, anyway? Both short term and long term.

I think in terms of less than 1k turns. 1k is my upper limit. Anything more than that takes too much time to play. I often forget that people all seem to play 5,000 or more turns most of the time anymore. I suppose with 5,000 turns, it would be easy to have the cash to probe before a ztm was done. Figure 1500-1700 turns to get to full holds sdt, then another 3000 turns cashing, one person would make 36 million in one day easily. Although with that many turns, you would expect the enemy to already have an extensive grid by the time you went to probe, evening things out.

Actually you misunderstand me I think. I meant this in that you don't need a 100% ZTM upon game entering, you can do your own ZTM afterwards, get 99.5% or so from the public scripts out there and FOR THE MOST PART that's all you need. The few remaining warps, say 10 to 12 in a 10k universe that supg's did not pick up will be used by very few players in the game. I however AM one of them, considering rely very heavy on datamining and the stuff I use needs the most accurate ztm possible. For what Akor was saying however, he doesn't need every single warp at the moment because he's not using datamining scripts.
