Now that I have the file formats figured out, I might be able to do you guys one better on tedit scripting by allowing direct modification of the data files. My first version will be read-only, but if I manage to write data without corrupting the files, I might add write capabilities later on. I know I can manually modify hex codes here and there without causing problems, but some things require modifying duplicate fields across multiple files and are thus better to do with an interface library and a real program.

Hmmm a person willing to write scripts to alievate him/her from mundane duties or a personana not grata that takes some information that is available to anyone and modifies it to get what he/she wants.
If it smells like a pile of **** and it talks like a pile of **** and it walks like a pile of ****. Hmmm must be a scripter huh?

I started this thread 2 days ago, in the meantime I couldn't get back on for some reason, but
I love the way this thread went. I've been meaning to post my views on Tradewars and I now know the time is ripe, so I'm starting a new thread in Open Discussion called "Scripts, Bots and Bugs in Tradewars". Look for it.
BTW, my answer was given in the second or third post. Thanks.

Well back to the Topic...
I think reverand wrote a few admin scripts. One for scores and one for dupe IPs in the logs. I rememeber trying them one night worked okay I think.
But I would like to see more admion scripts out there as I am just learning scripting and would probably screw up my server if I started to poke around with internal workings of TWGS or Trade Wars itself.

I could see a script that would go thru everysector in the game thru tedit and remove fighters, planets or anything else the script writer could put in, or maybe an option to remove whatever thru tedit.

Just some thoughts.,

Bethel

>shudders< The very thought of manually removing stuff sector by sector scares me. Give me a week, you'll be doing stuff like that in under a second with XenTEdit. [:D]
