I'm having a reoccuring problem. My IP has changed at least 6 times in the last 2 days. My IP updater never updates. I almost suspect my router is the problem. Any ideas?? I'm almost ready to just turn the server off till it gets better.

Ick, I hope it doesn't come to that, Vader. You run a great server and I play there all the time.

idk, it could be the ISP you are with maybe they made a change to there DHCP server or it could have something to do with the lease not renewing properly maybe try going into the router and manually releasing the IP and renewing it. It’s a shot in the dark but it may work

Problem is, I have no clue how to do that. Routers, totally unknowns to me.

I know about routers. I'm a network admin. What kind of router do you have? Are you suppost to have a static IP or is your service on DHCP?

Just cycling it off for a few and back on should cause a lease renew I know when you power on most DSL modems they will check with the DHCP server for an assigned IP and the status of the current lease or will just pull a fresh lease and a new IP. I would think the problem would be with the modem or whatever plugs directly into the telephone jack not the router or hub you have plugged into the modem.

It could also be that your ISP is having a problem causing you to drop and then when you reconnect it reassigns you a different IP or it can be a DHCP server problem with your ISP.

I know nothing about the equipment you are using so like I said I’m still shooting in the dark here.

Yeah,

Chances are there is a router problem that will be resolved with a manual IP release/renew, OR the ISP has changed thier lease times for the DHCP leased addresses.

If it is the latter, then you are hosed, since you will be changing IPs regularly as the IP leases time-out.

Hope that's not the case... let us know what happens!

I doubt that its because the ISP change the lease time on the DHCP server they could set it to assign a new IP every time a lease is up but that not a typical setup normally a DHCP server will renew the lease for the current IP that is already assigned to the device the lease part is more or less so that the DHCP server knows when an IP is open to be reassigned to a deferent device. To me it sounds more like your dropping connect for moment and you are being reassigned an new IP on reconnect or your modem is not responding to the DHCP server telling it the current IP is still in use.
