I will no longer run ICQ on my computer(s). It has been causing crash after crash. After reinstalling and then removing all the AOL bullcrap it puts on it still crashes and crashes. ICQ is a virus and should be put in the ****can with AOL!!

But wait, you say: I use ICQ and have no problems. Good for you. I use YAHOO IM known as Y! and never has crashed once. And another thing when I use Y! I do not get all the ads from sex sites that pop up in the most incovient times as I DID with ICQ.

ICQ is no longer nearly what it once was. I used ICQ since early in 1998, and about 6th months ago gave up on it and switched to trillian. I have had no complaints at all with it.

Don't remember when i started using icq but my number is 111--- so it has been a long time, i have messages in my message archive dating back to sept of 98. I have been building and repairing computers over 8 years now and on all my customers computers i install icq pro not lite and have only had problems maybe 3 times in all this time so i would say something is not configured right or you have a conflict with another program. I also have twgs installed on my system and run it as private test server for limited people. You can turn off the x rated stuff in preferences. Sorry to hear you are having problems but yahoo and msn causes way more problems for me and my customers than icq ever has..

i use yahoo for my americas army clan and it is the biggest pile i have ever seen. i hope the creator dies of aids.

Dang Animal! 6 digit ICQ addie and I'm in the 8 digits? ICQ rocks IMHO and ICQ Pro 2003b is what I recommend...Lite SUCKS! Got to set it correctly as you implied. I only authorize folks recommended by others I trust and use ICQ mostly for game but is much better for instant messaging than other helpers I have found. Trillian is also great when properly installed as it will gather the addies from other IM's and should respond as quick as others. Yeah...Yahoo and a couple others suck bigtime!

This may seem long and boring if you already know this, but most do not, read on lol. As FC said you can get rid of the pop-ups, but IMHO they should not be there in the first place...

The company that made ICQ (Mirabellis) was bought by the huge computer evil entity known as AOL just about a year after AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) came into vogue. The AIM did not work well, so once they bought ICQ, AIM looked and acted much like it, then they built on it and I am quite sure it is much differant now. But (and here is where I have a problem) just after AOL bought it, I started getting the ICQ spam you are talking about. Long story short, someone at AOL must have sold ICQ numbers to those who sent you that unwanted crap.

Anyway I have personal reasons that drive my dislike for both AOL and Yahoo, and do not used either IM software they offer (although many others do)

And another reason I use Yahoo, 4 of miy kids that do not live with me use it also. I use trillian with it and never have had any probs. MY one son who is in the Marines out in California pops in once in a while. He also uses Yahoo. I also used to have 7 digit ICQ # but hell if i remember what it was.
I am glad that it works for some of you. MAybe I will try it again when I get my new system soon. But untill then this system and ICQ clash.

I have to agree that I like trillian, but the problem is wierd. It wont work thru trillian either. It did for a few days, but then just wouldnt connect. I say screw it.
most IM's are a pain in the arse anyways. In the middle of something and DING! Someones wants to just say hi.

Miranda also works with most Im's Thats what I use and it imports my contact list from ICQ and Msn, had no major problems with it.
