Hi everyone,

I just downloaded the latest server and registered it and I'm trying to get it up and configured, for myself and some friends to practice on together.

But I'm having some problems getting alien races configured (both alien traders and ferrengi)...

If I bigbang a world with defaults, no alien races appear.

I've tried using both internal and external aliens with no differences.

Then I noticed the alien editors show the aliens (and ferrengi too) as inactive. So, I make them active and that improves thigns slightly. Now when I log in I see the message that they ferrengi and alient traders are active when the server shows who is logged in.

But still... no ships around.

I also tried adding alien traders and ferrengi under tedit.

That at least causes them to appear in the game, but they just sit there not doing anything.

How do I get these guys configured?

Is there some documentation for this stuff that I'm missing?

Thanks!!
Davros

well i am not the alien guru, but ill give this one a shot.
im guessing that you are just missing a step, ill list all my steps down and you can see which one ya skipped :) heh
1st you want to enable Gold pre-big bang which is option J
then it will ask to clear all custom stuff to inactive. sure, you can activate whatever you want later. it now says internal alien processing disabled, to run standard twars aliens, you must enable internal processing before completing big bang. but we dont want standard, we want gold aliens. now we bang the game.
we go into the gold alien manager. here is the settings i will use just to make them appear right away and to have them be active on day one, they are by no means what you NEED to use, just what will get the job done.

ill use the alien traders. which are the first alien race.
there are the settings i will use:
page 1:
C:0
D:1
E:50
F:100
I:2
L:YES
page 2:
C:No
D:YES
E:YES
L:YES
page 3:
D:(b)9999
page 4:
all 0 days
page 5:
nothing changed
page 6:
K:YES

now i will go back to general editer and goto option G.
i will use option P to make the game about 25 days old.
just to make sure they are out there, heh
turn on the server... look in my alien manager (bottom left corner) and wow, they are super active... anywho, do that, see if you can get aliens to be in game, if so, they you can change around the edits to what you prefer them to be.

Hmm.. actually I think I spoke too soon. I'm finding that the aliens are active in the game (in fact, they are all over the place), but they don't show up on the Alien Trader list in game. That is, if I go into the computer and hit H, they aren't there.

Actually, the one that I manually added is there, but its still just sitting in the same sector, not doing anything.

So, are the Alien Traders from the "Alien Race Editor" different from those in the "Aliens Editor" and "Ferrengi Editor"?

For a little more clarification, here's a list of some aliens in sector 1:

Sector : 1 in The Federation.
Beacon : FedSpace, FedLaw Enforced
Ports : Sol, Class 0 (Special)
Planets : (M) Terra
Aliens : Lance Corporal Test Alien 1, w/ 100 ftrs,
in Ichaar Zotixek (Murene Merchant Freighter)
Alien Tr: Staff Sergeant Jatu Xiichish, w/ 100 ftrs,
in Aqeot Nadepam (AldenShrike Merchant Cruiser)
Menace 1st Class Zipi Teedop, w/ 32 ftrs,
in Axuak Hochechad (AldenShrike Merchant Cruiser)

The one listed under "Aliens:" has been there for hours, doing nothing. The others are warping around and trading like you'd expect.

However, under the alien traders list from the computer:
Alien Rankings: 08/27/16 03:02:47 PM

# Rank Alignment Corp Alien Name Ship Type
--- --------------------- -- ------------------------------ ------------------
1 10 10 ** Test Alien 1 Merchant Freighter

Only the "dead" alien that I manually added shows up.

Is there a way to include "Alien traders" in the list, and/or get this dead alien to get moving?

Thanks!

I'll try and cover this one.
Gold Aliens are different than "Internal Aliens". The only aliens that will show up, in game, at the C-H-V, listing are the "internal" alien traders. The Ferrengi are the same way, the only way to make them behave in the "classic" manner is to turn on "internal" processing. If you have turned on "internal" proccesing, remember the number of aliens in the game is based on the age of the game in days.

PS. I welcome correction if I am at all mistaken here.
