As the subject states, what does the MBBS setting do? Is it better to have that turned off or on? I tried looking this up but couldn't find anything on it.

If I understand correctly, you are asking what the differances are between MBBS being on or not, correct?
Well, the basic setting in a game are changed somewhat, so this would affect whow a player plans to play in the game. 2 differances right off the top of my head (and there are others) the ability to rob/steal is altered, and q-cannon damage is differant.[}:)]

MBBS mode locks rob/steal settings at 50%/70% respectively. It adds the ability to mega-rob, also. With it on, alignment penalties from corp figs is locked off. Atmospheric cannons will do 4x the damage of non-mbbs. Some of the experience and alignment penalties for attacking another player are also different. Also, ports are locked in at something like 32750 product.

32768 product, it is an signed Integer maxium value. I know this because I am a programmer.

So, if it isn't on you can make the rob/steal to different percentages. But you can't do a mega-rob unless you have it on?
And what is the:
With it on, alignment penalties from corp figs is locked off.

With MBBS mode on, you can't adjust the rob/steal settings. You can only do mega-robs if MBBS mode on. With mbbs mode on, you will not get alignment changes from attacking another corp's figs.

Just because you are a programmer, Orion, doesn't make you correct.
In MBBS mode, the ports are locked in at a max of 32,760 product, not 32,768.

Well I guess I am wrong then. Off by 8 holds. Must have rounded down to the nearest 10th to keep the port holds even with the 10's system of ship cargo holds max? Any reason why it is not 32768 other than that?

Well you could have been right, and you've got the right theoretical decimal value... 32768, HEX=FFFF, BINARY=1111 1111 1111 1111, or whatever base number system you'd like to use... but a port's holds have to be a multiple of 10. And this is true in MBBS or non-MBBS.

I am currently working on edits called "Completely Pointless" that will have odd numbered max holds on all the ships. Should throw a monkey wrench into the trading formulas?

Its 2^15 rounded down to the nearest 10. If memory serves it was originally 2^16 rounded down, or 65530, which I believe is the max in non MBBS mode today.

Ok so let me get this straight 2^15 rounded down to the nearest ten?
Or is is 2^16 rounded down to the nearest 10? If I take this rounding down and apply it to a game in which I'm porting and trading 300,000 times, how much profit have I lost in the equation? Man, now wonder I'm losing to you guys! I'm just happy if my credits keep going up
But anyway, MBBS is simply an acronym for "Major Bulletin Board System" it was the first multi node version of Tradewars, mostly run on World Group BBS software (if I am wrong, sorry, just what I always thought). Anyway, I remember when JP added the MBBS feature to the Gold and discussed it with him at length at Twars.com right over the game messaging system. He wanted to make it possible to run both versions of Twars off of one Server and he pulled it off pretty well! How surprised I was to find out that the Mega Rob was not a bug but a design feature deliberately written into MBBS! All those years I would tee hee every time I mega robbed. Just kidding, I would actually ASK the sysops if it was ok for me to use Mega Rob first and they'd send me letters with ?????? at the end of them
Oh, one Sysop did tell me if I got caught using that bug I'd be banned. NO kidding!
The MBBS version is just a tad bit different, but the differences are only discernable to the trained eye. One big difference that I always overlooked until someone pointed it out to me at Alien Base is that there is no alignment change for killing fighters deployed. That has not been mentioned here either. Shows how much I worry about alignment. Hey if Zyrain pops me, I'll just go get another ship.
