When you want to assign a guardian bonus to a ship, does it have to be a corp status ship guarding a corp planet, or can you have corp turned off and still have the gaurdian bonus. Also, what does it raise the defensive odds when you are guarding?

It doesn't have to be a corp only ship. It raises the defensive odds by a multiple of 4. So if it's a 2:1 ship with a tholian bonus, it'll get 8:1.

Just so there is no confusion, I believe the ship has to be corp owned in the game to get the bonus, but it doesn't have to be set corp only in tedit.

I recently played in a game where ALL the ships had the guardian bonus. I found out that if someone ever tried to attack me, all i had to do is make a planet (gen torp.) and the bonus would kick in right then and there.
I think the bonus should only work if the planet has a cit. just to avoid that issue.

OK, the Guardian bonus has to match at least one planet in the sector to work. What used to be called the "Tholian Bonus" applied to Corp-owned Tholian Sentinel ships guarding Corp-owned planets, and the bonus was a Defense value of 4:1.
..
However, the TWGS Gold Edition allows for ship editing, and the requirement (or not) for corporate ownership is a check box, as is whether or not the ship in question has the Guardian bonus. This bonus is 4x the ship's defensive value, NOT the old 4:1 odds the Tholian Sentinel has.
..
FOR EXAMPLE - A Gold Edition ship, the Corp Marauder, has 2:1 odds in battle and the Guardian bonus, but requires corp membership to purchase. If guarding a PERSONAL planet in this corp ship, the odds are only 2:1. If guarding a CORP planet, the Defensive odds are 2x4, or 8:1 for defense.
