I am not a gameop but have a serious issue. Entered a recently banged game and 1 player on another corp will exit and then another enters almost immediately and am convinced both of those are the same player as they are never on at the same time. With current TWGS there is really no way to check for dupers unless there is a system in place when the game is running as a stand-alone access site. Wondering if John Pritchett can come up with some sort of a solution tht will at least make duping a bit more difficult with some sort of a front door screen? Yes...I know that anyone who is serious about duping will always find a way around this sort of a thing....especially if they have more than 1 ISP accessible. Sigh..
Screen could be gameop configurable I think.... Getting tired of having to register for games at gameop webpages to enter and still have to deal with dupes using more than one E-Mail address to recieve PW codes to get in games.... If anyone reads this that feels like this is directed to you...then take it personally. I only have 2 in mind at this point! [:(!]

The systems that Coast Games and Lost Traders Tavern have in place work very well but its not foolproof. The sysop or gameop still has to check for other things between players such as 2 players on the same corp with the same passwords to log in. The best thing I can come up with is an email system from the web site to report duping or problems with people in the game. When people suspect something, instead of *****ing and complaining in the forums and in the game, they need to shut up and report it to the sysop so they can investigate the problem and wait for a reply before tearing someones head off in a game. By doing that you give them the heads up to change everything about what they are doing and how they are playing before the sysop can look at it. No offense Father but I have done this many times, and the sysop has found about 98% that I was right and deleted them, the trick is not to let them know your on to them and let the sysop do his job. If that doesnt work then ***** and holler to everyone but in the mean time its best to not let them know what you suspect.

What if it is room mates or family members playing the game? What if it is a college system that students are taking turns in, and one is helping the other, and then playing afterwords.

You don't really know for sure, but you suspect it is duping.

Someone once wrote not to long ago that there are scripts that can check tedit for duping activities. Like maybe passwords the same, or same IP address, or some other pattern. It would be nice if someone made these scripts public to discourage duping.

IF the sysop wants to insure that there is no duping going on, the bset that he can do is to verify that noone is using the same IP. There are scripts out there for that. I have one. If anyone needs it.
It checks the logs though not TEDIT. Checking for same passwords and other things like that can raise several other issues. The best that you can look for would be IP addies. I have had people tell me that they were in college and there would be one or two people with the same IP. However, when I traced the IP it is registered to a single person.
The Dupe checker that I have checks for the first three sets of numbers in the IP addy for dupes. then reports them to the sysop.

Another way around this is to only allow one IP. This the sysop can set from the server. However then the players can only play one game on the server at a time.

But what if more than one player has the same ISP? My friend NJ-Fury wants to join in a TW game, but uses the same ISP as me in the same area. Your script would show him as a dupe, even if he isn't one. We both get assigned Dynamic IPs from the same DSL pool. I guess if he was on at the same time as me but using a different IP would prove that he wasn't a dupe, right?

Someone else posted having a LAN Party and logging into a TW game. Each PC behind that LAN will be seen as the same IP to the TWGS server. How can you account for that and not block their access? What if people are playing from a Cybercafe that also uses one IP to access the Internet?

Not that I advocate duping, but some people might have a legit reason to use the same IP from a LAN Party, Cybercafe, or College. Or maybe the same subnet from a friend who also plays from a location that is the same and the same ISP.

The general rule for same IPs is clear it with the sysop before you play. I've known some that do voice verifications to make sure there really are two people. Also, most sysops take the time to be fairly certain before deleting people for duping. People normally aren't deleted for sharing the same ISP, but it can flag the sysops attention to check a little closer.

Latest suggestion I have recieved from another player is to set up invitational only games and make them closed. This might be good for 'kick-back' and relax players as well as newbs that want to learn more about gameplay. Don't know if that will eliminate the
dedicated dupers though.... For invitation only games it might take a bit of coordinating between the players to agree to a roster and then have a willing host.
