 getting rid of default ships

Whenever i have made ship i have made 15 completely new ones....IN the game i am currently working on i only have 10 ships and it won't let me set the other 5 to inactive and won't let me delete them because they are default ship classes...I know it is able to be done because i have seen it before...How do i get rid of the other 5 ships that i do not need.

Set them to manual deployment instead of general deployment and they wont show up in the ship yards. That should do it.
