Just started out with TWGS Lite and TW2002.

Question 1: I am of course playing in my served game, what does setting my user id as a SYSOP buy me? Does it give me an unfair advantage? Or does it simply give me usefull sysop tools while playing the game?

Question 2: How do I edit the welcome message that is displayed when people sign into my served game?

Question 3: Is there a way to send an in-game email to all players at once? Or is there another way to send a warning or useful tip to all players? The answer to question #2 may answer this one. :)

Thanks in advance

Can't really help you much with that one but, are you going to post your IP or will it be private?(I'm a new player\sysop,..just can't run my server yet.) I know TWGS Lite only has like 4 nodes but you never know... :]

Going private for a while to get myself and a few friends acclimated.

I dont claim to know everything but since nobody else has responded ill have a go. As far as ive noticed, the sysop tag adds free cloaking devices when you log off. Also when talking on fednet or posting an announcement, if you hit enter on the first line, you can pick a custom "from" tag.

Once again someone can probly answer this better, but the only way ive found to do this is post an announcement from the computer menu, and if your tagged as sysop, hit enter, and choose the from as "GAME CONTROL"

Thats about the closest to an official messege ive seen, but its not manditory to read, since some people will skip the daily log.

Not really. You can do things like clean up the graffiti in the restroom in the Tavern and little stuff like that. On another note it is a terribly bad idea to play in your own game. You WILL be accused of cheating at some point, I can guarentee it. Unless you set yourself up as an Observer in which case you cannot actually play per se, just be a neutral prescence in the game.

For the TWGS main menu screen create an ANSI or text file and then within the TWGS configuration set that as the file that is displayed at login. For customizing individual games, replace the TWHELLO.ANS, TWHELLO2.ANS, and TWHELLO3.ANS files in the ANSI directory underneath the game directory for that game with your own replacements. I can't remember the name of the textfile offhand since I'm not sitting at my TWGS right at the moment but I believe it has a .msg extension.

You can post an announcement within the game (which is only good for one day basically), or refer to #2 above.

Thanks for you responses everyone.

(On another note it is a terribly bad idea to play in your own game. You WILL be accused of cheating at some point, I can guarentee it. ) --> I hear what you are saying and that is why I am currently only running a closed game. I have invited people by invitation only to play. The players all know me personally and trust me. They know I will not abuse my sysop privileges. (I will admit that it is tempting - I was photoned two days ago in my sentinel and i lost 2000 turns. It would have been easy to just edit my user profile and add them back, but I was good.) I am the only one that had to pony up cash for the server, because I wanted to play this great game with friends that I could talk to about it offline. So far there hasn't been a problem. Your advice is well taken though - if I choose to run an open game at some point, I will not play an active role. On that note, can you recommend any good open games (with a trustworthy sysop) for me to play in? Now that I have more TW experience I am looking to play against the big boys and see what else I can learn.
