I was reading some websites that have extern set to run durring the day. Currently I have it set to run at night about 12:30am. Would changing the time of extern during an active game be unethical and should it wait till rebang, or is it ethical to change it during an active game??

As a rule of thumb, its best not to change anything during an active game. I would think especially extern. If you do decided to do it anyways, be sure to post several days worth of announcements in the daily logs and for requests of objections, etc. If you wait till you have no active games then you can change it without remorse or asking for "permission".

Sounds good. I wouldn't change it without my players knowing about it first. And I don't change stuff usually durring an active game unless it is adding aliens, ships or planets. Stuff like that I would add.... Kinda keeps the games going if you know what I mean...

Since extern is such an important part of a game with serious players.. I'd set it to about 9 or 10 pm EST so everyone (stateside anyway) can have a real chance of being there without hurting themselves for work the next day..

But I agree.. get a concensus from your players in an active game..

Don't change anything Till you have informed your player.

As far as Extern , I have found it traditionally at or near midnight game time.
After All players have to follow server time.
I have always played from Guam so with the exception to daylite savings time , Extern has been around 2-3 pm in my afternoon.

So living in the states or any other part of the world it is easy to calculate when it happens. In game type CTq and you see the time of the server.

I know of other players that are from other parts of the world that would agree that changing Extern to something to far from midnight will postpone some of the functions of extern.
Mainly the retreaving of lifes after Midnight.
So since you cant change midnight why not leave extern happen then [?]
How many oldtimers remembering extern at mindnight [?]
(as a side note , I remember one that happened at 4 am server time)
on some bbs I played at years ago.

That is the reason I have it set for 12:30am. I always remember extern at 12am when I used to play on the BBS's.... Yeah, I think I will keep it traditional... Thanks for the input...
