Can you do things like make alien planets that wander? Just curious.

Wasn't there an older Tradewars game that had a planet named "The Wanderer" that moved around every day at the Extern event? You could capture it for one day, and then it was not yours after it moved.

Or maybe I am thinking of an Add-On to TW2002? My memory is fuzzy from way back.

But having wandering alien planets would be cool.

Wandering planets can be done quite easily right now.

Write a TEDIT script that will execute about the same time at extern that will edit the alien planet as well as the sector defenses into a different sector.

The script could also then go into the game itself and post in the logs "The <put your planet name here> has moved!"

Simple as that.

Just make sure the sector you choose is empty for two reasons:
1) If you edit over a corp's base, they will be pissed.

2) if it is just a single toll fig, editing that over might bring it up on a blocked port report.

I think this will be an interesting script to use in a capture-the-planet game where you would move the planet around and keep players guessing where it is.

Actually I think it would be cool to have a script like this where you could move planets once an hour so if someone finds the planet they have a maximum of one hour to invade it before it moves again.

Planets don't block port reports.

Figs do if sector defenses are edited as well.

Then again, if all it is is the planet being moved around, be interesting to have a planet being moved to a corp toll fig. Corpie thinks it's safe to make the jump and boom! he gets quasar'ed.

Should put an interesting twist in any one game.

If you're worried about sector fighters blocking a port report, you run into the same problem regardless whether there is a fig down or not.

I think what he is trying to saw is that the Corpie won't know there is a planet in his/her sector when he/she warps into it and gets fried by a Quasar Blast. The Port won't be blocked, and as soon as a Colt or some other low armed ship warps in, they could lose it.

The trick would be to run the script to check the sector for Figs before moving the planet there, if so, pick another sector.

I also wonder if you can make aliens that act like Traders, IE, you can "make" a crop that they are members of, they have planets that are their HQ, etc, etc... Is that possible?

Save it for a more advanced version of TWGS, you can Corp with an Alien Trader or they can form their own Corps. I guess if you attack one of their Corpies, the others come running to attack you?

Of course we never see Aliens that attack other Aliens. That would be good to add as well. See a Ferrengi take out an Alien Trader in the logs. Maybe invade the other Alien's planet?

Yeah, growing comp controlled empires that are legit would be sweet, IMO. Especially because the sysop could make new game types by controlling their actions from the background...

The Alien AI that is supposed to be incorporated at some point gives you similar control to this. It is supposed to let the alien races do anything that the real traders can do including building planets and attacking other aliens.

I think that the most serious top 20 bugs will get fixed before that feature is added to Tradewars. It will be fun when the Alien AI is upgraded.
