Does anyone know where to find, or has made custom ships and races for twgold that they wouldn't mind sharing? I'm a total newb to the Gold features and alien race editing. I think I understand most of the options in there, but it looks like a LOT of work. I was thinking about adding the usual trekkie races, klingon, cardassian, vulcan, and romulan, but wow.. That'd take a really long time to do right.
Also, in the gold race editor, there's mention of AI modules. Were there ever any released or is that a leftover from the Martech days that never got created?
So if anyone knows of a website I might find some "race packs" (ship and name files at least) or wouldn't mind sharing yours with me, please let me know!
Thanks!

Oldtimer has several races already cataloged over at http://www.coastgames.com, and there are many edits for ships and planets scattered about. They are fun to mod.
The alien AI files are not old leftovers, they are actually new additions that have not been added yet. The AI files will allow custom aliens to not only act like traders, but will actually respond over Fedcom and Subspace radios, hunt down a specific trader for a bounty, etc. The JumpGate is another feature that is in the works for a future release, but development of both of these has been put on a back burner for quite a while now.

One thing that several people have asked about is a utility to export a specific ship/alien race/planet to a file so that it could be imported into TWGS. I'm playing with the idea, and now that I'm dead in Big Game 2, I'm going to see what can be done.
One problem will be making sure that the person operating the TWGS has a reg code <GRIN>. Think I have a way to check, we'll see.

Well Hatter there is a good way to make sure its registered, all the aliens and planet edits have to be Gold anyway, they have to be registered to even use them otherwise they wouldnt bother.

Stock games are great because you know what to expect when you play the game. Gold changes all of that though. When you play a Gold Game you never know what to expect.
Are there any other so called “Standard Edits” or edits that are really popular? Or are all the “Edits” a “One Hit Wonder” so to speak? Changing every time the game is restarted. Does anyone ever name their “Edits” and try to make them popular?
You could have something like “Trade Wars 2002” “Homen of Kagaras”. Sort of like a subtitle that becomes really well known. That way people don’t have to keep adapting to different game balances but have a several interesting twists in the game.

Most of the Alien Race edits are self-explanatory... Xenophobic, agressive, etc. The numbers portions where you set their nominal and max alignments/exp/corbs/figs is a little tougher to get but just tinker with it and you'll figure it out.
The best thing you can do with a brand new alien race is to give them their own ships; that's what REALLY makes an alien race. I've got two races that I've put together, one is pretty awesome IMO, the other is pretty weenie and needs some work. But both of them are working really well, and they both have their own specific ships that are worth quite a bit.
Best thing to do? Create a game that ISN'T open to the public, go wild with some alien races, and play that game by yourself over a few days and see how they start reacting. You can tell if they work the way you want them to or not...
My chaocian alien group has come to the point where they're stealing other alien race's planets and hunting down the ferrengi -- they're some seriously evil dudes, and I love it!

Makes me want to register TWGS even more. I wanted to add in the Traveller alien races to TW. It would be great if they were exportable. Imagine a Vargr Coursair.
Now if I could just convince my wife to let me spend the $60USD to register it...

Vargr????
Didn't know anyone here also played TRAVELLER. Good to see. I once did ship edits based on TRAVELLER ships in Book 2.

Sounds good, Traveller ships. Even the Traveller Scout ship has limited cargo holds.

Im really happy that i registered gold the other day. After seeing in the daily log that one of my weeny space pirates killed one of my players flying a near top of the line ship i almost choked laughing. Especially since the pirate's name was Johnny Yardarm
