This is probably old news to everybody, but I just read this in an interview with JP on tradewars.org. Is this still in concideration? If so, GREAT!!:

I want to generalize the server so that it serves Trade Wars games, but can also serve other games designed for it (I'm working on rights to port Legends of the Red Dragon as the next title). There are many other smaller goals, and I'm always receiving valuable feature requests from customers.

That would be very helpful for me. I'm already running the old door version on my BBS and it's the most popular game second to TW. The people who own the rights came out with an updated version that fixes some problems, but I can't run it because, under DOSEmu, it taps CPU utilization for some reason. I have to run the prior version that doesn't have that problem, but has some major bugs. It would be way better if I could run it on the TWGS without all the bugs :) Also, rlogin is a really clean and easy way to handle game connections from the BBS. Those old DOS door games use stinky PITA drop files.

Man that would be great if I could get all my games running on the TWGS. I could totally get away from using DOSEmu on the BBS server. I wouldn't have any reservations about paying for new licenses for something like that if they are reasonably priced liked TWGS.

If "BBS like" user management was added to TWGS, I could get rid of the BBS too.

Heh, only a few of those posters are left, Fuse - Maybe they'll be a collector's item someday.

Too bad Seth doesn't do software for games anymore. But I suppose that's all in a different time.

I'm not sure what the status on this is. If I remember correctly from one of my discussions with JP a while back, he was trying to work out a deal with Seth to port LORD over to TWGS. That was back before Seth sold LORD (and his other games) to another person/company (can't remember offhand who the new owner is). My guess is that that pretty much put an end to the chances of LORD being ported for TWGS. It would have been a very cool idea though!

Hmm, when did JP begin work on TWGS?

I thought Seth sold those a bit before TWGS..

I haven't talked to Seth since he was working on the Dink Smallwood project a while back..

Not sure offhand when he started working on TWGS. It wasn't all that long after he started working on v3 for Gary Martin. For a while there Gary was taking v3 registrations and JP was selling TWGS separately, and I know at one point he had intended to try to port other games to the server.

Yes, it would have been a VERY cool thing! I miss playing LORD too, it would be very nice to have TWGS serve LORD. Even if I had to register LORD with the current owners. Perhapse there could be a "Gold" version of TWGS that costs a little more, but allowed different ports of "Add-On" games to be added. Man that would be nice. This and added user security/managment to TWGS would make it wonderfull. No need for a BBS package to muttle things up. I can only hope and dream.... and pray. [:)]

Don't hold your breath on that.. LORD is owned by Metropolis, the same bunch that owns MajorMud and the Rose. No upgrades, no nothing. LORD is a very sweet game, simple, compact, and a lot of fun. (I do have 2 games running on Hub BBS that you are welcome to join for free - just telnet to hubbbs.com and create your account. It helps to drop me an email telling me that you are going to play LORD so that I upgrade your account to a free lifetime thing. You get 10 hours a day forever.) The registration wasn't cheap, either. My board had owned the older door version forever, but I was charged full price when I upgraded to the 256 line NT version. At least I get to run 2 games at once.

The game has had no changes to it in an eternity, nor is it likely to. The best that can be hoped for is to have someone buy it from Metropolis and work with JP.

Well, I hope this thread doesnt anger JP any, of course TW is by far the best text based game out there IMHO. However, LORD is pretty nice too. I sure would love it if JP designed some way for TWGS to be able to host it. I'm not saying INTEGRATE with LORD, just the posibility to set it up to host it. Hell, like I was sayin, its a chance to offer a "TWGS Gold" version that supports setting up other door games and better handeling of user security (MO' MONEY!). I sure would be willing to "upgrade" to it. If this is ever planned, SIGN ME UP! :-) I certinly dont want the hasstle of setting up a BBS front end for my already outstanding TWGS server which handles incomming connections perfectly. Why'd that bum Seth sell out to Metro anyway, in my opinion they can go $#%@@ off. (course that wont stop me from sending them $15 if JP can set up a way to host it) [:)] They're just gonna let it die off with no updates, no fixes, and no support. But I digress, this is a TW forum isn't it? (sorry)
