I am wanting to know how many ios too many? I know lots of players don't like them at all but I have a game that wants them and more then just 1 race. IS there a problem that sysops and gameops have found with having more then 2 races?

I can't comment on the actual impact on the game for players, but if you're asking about the server's ability to handle more than two alien races...
The Non-Player Server is far more stable now than it ever has been. I've load-tested the Alien Server with 25,000 active aliens (1,000 aliens in each of 25 games) set to a 1 in 1 move chance (they will always move every server cycle). Load test was conducted over a three day weekend, and there were no problems.
Depending on how you have your aliens set up to behave and what kind of machine you're running the server on will determine how they affect the performance of the server. In my case, the test was conducted on a 8 ghz server. If I were to try the same thing on my little P90... I couldn't even guess what the result would be. In most cases, you'll never have enough aliens/alien races active to affect the performance of a midrange (800mhz or higher) machine.

Okay thanks. I am running a 1.2 Amd duron with 512 ram. It is also my home computer. It does slow things down a bit but not too much.
Do /have you found that multiple alien races create corrupt game files at all?

I didn't find any corruption issues when running the maximum number of aliens across the entire server during my last load test of the alien server. However, load tests for Trade Wars rarely mirror actual gameplay, so I can't say that it won't/doesn't... only that I haven't seen it happen in quite a while.
Your 1.2 ghz AMD should be more than capable of handling the load of quite a few alien races as well as very active players without any problems.
