Is there a way when an alien race finds a planet, that it attempts to take it over?

If you move a planet into an alien race's homespace, they'll attack until they control it. Otherwise, as far as I'm aware, they don't mess with planets.
Oh, and when/if you capture their homeworld, if they find it they'll attack and recapture it no matter where it is.

is there any way to make aliens nasty then? I would like to do the borg in a game but I don't know how to make them powerful. Any suggestions?

In the alien editor in TEDIT, you can change the aggressive settings and such for alien races...just make a new alien race and edit it until you think you have what you want. Trial and error is the best way to get these things down pat.

I wanted to update you all and give you a little sneak peak of what's in the works, at this moment, and one of the reasons .56 is taking a while to get out the door.
For planned inclusion in revision .56 will be an all new alien AI system capable of utilizing the long anticipated Alien AI modules. These features will be disabled in .56 however with a planned activation in .57 after some very serious testing and fine tuning.
This new AI system isn't quite as expansive as the original one proposed by Martech Software back in the early v3 door days, but will offer a significant improvement over the existing Gold aliens. For the most part, making a gold alien do anything you want (within reason) will most likely be possible with the new Alien AI system. There are some limitations, of course, to prevent modules from causing the dreaded data corruption that has popped up here and there in Trade Wars' development history...
This will likely be one of the last "feature additions" to v3 as EIS prepares to move towards a stable, final release.
(Don't quote me on this... this new system is relatively untested... whether it will actually perform as expected without causing corruption issues is yet to be determined. No promises on whether or not this will actually fly in v3, which is for the most part cranky 15 year old legacy code. It's looking good at the moment, but that doesn't mean serious issues will pop up once it goes under the heavy load testing microscope.)

Well, I for one have been waiting for this. Since I had first regestered for the gold features, when it became available. But, I am ready to get it a really good and thorough testing.
