the only way to determine the attack order of a given sector is to display the sector (or holo scan it) and read the order.

Knowing the attack order of a particular player is most useful if you are waiting for them to log in, or waiting for them to blast off stardock or terra.

Dont forget that you can hail people..

say for instance I am at SD, waiting for graz to log in

I type in =r and get a list

=r
Do you mean artbatista? No
Do you mean Otter? No
Do you mean grazhoppa? No
Do you mean Vader? No
Do you mean -=Mythrandir=-? No

I hit D at SD and I see this
..
1st Sergeant Otter, w/ 0 ftrs,
in ][i3 F|G|-|73|2 (Andorian Freighter)
Sergeant Major -=Mythrandir=- [4], w/ 3,457 ftrs,
in Smile (Havoc Inc Combat Patrol)

I know that when graz logs in he will be between otter and Mythandir..

This method is "okay" at building a player order list.

Thats accually a really good game we're in doc :)

I haven't leared Much in this game, cept to be more leary of you. (When your hunting)

Doc does pay close attention to the order of appearance, but he doesn't pay alot of attention to spare ships-

Keep that in mind if your stuck on dock, a spare ship or 2 may save your life, depending on the prompt/script your attacker is at/using.

What I've always worried about is the guy that manages to get a combat lock while you're on your way IN, but then sits at that attack prompt until you fly back off. Is he still locked on you? Any way to thwart that kind of advantage?

galaxi

[edit: For that matter, what about the other types of "menu-locks" in this game? Most advanced players understand the p-lock, you guys ever thought about the other menu-locks at your disposal? Hehehehe....]

combat lock will hold basically forever, but there is at least one way to force the lock to be broken... I'll leave it to the guy who showed me the trick whether or not he wants to post the details.

Galaxy-
As far as I know, the lock can't be broken.. I'm sure there are ways around it, but none that I'm aware of..

The only 2 menu locks I know of, would be Plock, and Tlock (Which decays)

Other than that, nothing pops into mind :( (I'm not the killer my wife has become...)

Interesting. I assume it is more arcane than a red simplying changing names?

Keep in mind that a "Lock".. this is saying a lock ON the player and not say on the spot before.. but a LOCK is actually on the ship..

so say I am lock'd onto big12ozhog

Attack big12ozhog's ViperScout (2,716-86) (Y/N) [N]? Yes
How many fighters do you wish to use (0 to 1) [0]?

then the lock is on the SHIP and not the player.. so the player can simply lift & xport and for the cost of 1 turn the other guy in essence.. misses.. The good thing about that is that they get no notice of it..

DW hit it on the nose [:)]
if you xfer to an awaiting ship in orbit , you can play tag at SD just by having a few ships to xfer into and out of [}:)]
While your attacker is trying to get a fix on the right Ship [}:)] Your Gone !
You can use this with long range xfer ships stationed at tera and SD.

Now isn't this a Great Game [:D]

Well actually I *think* CK's reference was to buying a new ship (when you are trapped on SD and suspect someone has a lock on you).

But i might be wrong, heh. Maybe I'll experiement a little. =)

Could you also change the ship's name and fool the lock? Or does the lock work on ship number? If I had to guess, it would be ship number. If there are no unused ship records below your ship number, then you should get the same ship number when you trade in your current ship for a new one. Buying a new ship and quickly exporting to it would change the ship number. I wonder if you created a macro to move out of the stardock sector as soon as you leave the stardock, if that would break the lock attack as it would tell them that "Orion Blastar is no longer in this sector" when they hit "Y" to attack and enter the number of figs to attack with. Then twarp or move to a different sector and hope you didn't pick up any limpids.

I could be wrong, but I think you can break a lock by popping them first. Must test this. And obviously, a photon torpedo up your arse would make you loose a lock. Not possible if your at dock though.

Unless the "Photons in FedSpace" setting is turned on? 99% of the games I have been in had this turned off, so there are no possible Photons launched into FedSpace.

Yes I suppose if you had a Corpmate pop them in FedSpace first it would break the lock. That would only work if they were not FedSafe. Otherwise Zyran will want some words with you. :)

Another way is to stay at the Stardock until they get tired and log out. :) Keep hitting "#" to see if they are still in the game. "Come on, Orion has been at the Stardock for five hours now. What is he doing there?" Play some rounds of Tricon or something, use a keepalive script and do something else. Check the game every 15 minutes, is the locker still online? Nope, wait some more. Just hope that you aren't wasting any turns staying at the Stardock. :) Tant the locker from the FedCom inside of the Stardock. :)

Just xport out of dock. Even with a lock and no ship delay, it's going to take 250 ms for an attack to complete. That's plenty of time for you to get off and get out of there.

Also, the fedspace photons is in regards to firing photons FROM fedspace. If they're not allowed, only someone who isn't fedsafe can fire a photon from fedspace.
