I recently found out about tradewars and it had caught my attention and I was curiose as to what would be a good server to learn and get used to this game?

This is a blatant request for shameless gameops to reply with the addresses to their servers, right? JK
For most raw recruits I'd suggest finding a server that sees little traffic and has a default game or two running that you can play around in to get the basics of non-combat aspects of play down before hopping into the heat of a more competitive game. A good way to find one of these is to check the forum called Game Rebangs for entries that say or suggest 'new server' or 'recently returned'. In both cases the user base is likely to be low and you're more likely to be able to play some without getting trashed in 24 hours (or seconds as the case may be) or less.
Now for the shameless plug part (ok, I wasn't *entirely* kidding); I've run across a couple of servers that would make good candidates. Koala's server at 216.45.83.91:2002 is one of the newer sites that could use a boost in user base, as is the case with a BBS I play Land of Devastation on at theorchestra.dnsalias.net. There is an unlisted link from the space games menu that takes you to their TWGS. For a more competitive game I've been enjoying the Matrix game at twchaos.etowns.org when I've had the time to devote to it. Have fun!

Thanks for the plug Thistledown. Unfortunately, I am taking down the server for a bit to revamp the games and get things up the way I want them. This will be posted in rebangs, and I'll make an announcement a day before I put the server back into operation.

And permacorps.
Permacorps are groups of (often experienced) players who play together in various games and tournaments. But there is one permacorp that's organized for training newbies: the Trade Warriors Alliance. We have a few grizzled old traders and plenty of newbies, and we have intra-corp tournaments and stuff. Check out http://tradewars.fament.com/severian/twa.html if you're interested.

Actually I like to take that comment back, lately Booinc's server has been so picky and hard to get on its not even funny anymore... actually I wouldnt recommend it at all, why not try something from twleague.com besides eclipse, or try on bbs's.

I can recommend my own server. Its usually pretty good if I do say so myself. telnet://bbs.bawk.org You will have to use a "real" email address for validation (helps cut down on dupes). Enjoy.

I'll second this recommendation. Colonel Sanders runs a nice clean server that sits behind a Fusion BBS front end for a bit of extra anti-dupe security. Server is fairly fast and he bangs some good games.

I add several recommendations here... Family Entertainment (fament.com) usually has some fun stuff going on. I have also visited and enjoyed Deep South. Lots of good pickings from the inactive league servers list at the TWLeague site ( http://twleague.com/ and goto the Servers link). From one female player to another, you will be very welcome at just about any league board, active or inactive. Most of the guys have been very kind and patient at answering questions. That is not to say that non-league boards are bad.. just that the sysops/owners of the league boards seem to care about their games more. Many of them play as well - much nicer than the absentee landlord type of board - and if they know you are serious, they will treat you with respect.
I own Stardock Omega (new to the league), and have tried hard to have games that range from easy to challenging, and from mild to wild. I have 2 stock games with no edits - one easy, one hard. There is also a Newbie game that has a bit higher port regen. Most of the players so far are older hands that are a bit more tolerant of new players. They will help with questions, and often take you into their corp. We play for the fun of it, not for the glory. Access is free, and limited to 10 hours per day unless you are a league member. I can also use players to help shake it down before we host our first league game in September (hence the special deal for league members).
I do hope that you have as much fun as I do with the game.. I am back to the game myself after a 4 year absence. There are some awesome people out there... and you are already on your way to meeting them.

Can you come out and play?
