I can connect on my local machines, but want to others to connect over the internet and they are unable to do so! What settings do I need to change? What IP address do I need to put in the TWGS? If some one can help me here it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You need to give us some more info first. What kind of network do you have setup. Are you running NAT and have you setup any firewall settings. What port have you configured the server to accept connections on?

All I know is I have a cable modem that runs into my main computer and then I have a second NIC that runs to my second computer. I am using the Internet Connection Sharing, or whatever it is called. I have Microsofts firewall setup but I have it set up to accept stuff from the TWGS. The TWGS is set up to use port 23. Like I said in my first post, it works find from any of my two computers, but what info do others need to connect to my computer from the internet? Thanks for any help you can give me gws!

They simply need your ip address. You can find this by going to your dos prompt and typing ipconfig. you will see a number displayed. this is your ip address, however, if you don't have a static ip, that will change and players still will not be able to sign onto your server.

Well I don’t know much about the internet connection shearing part of windows never had to use it normally people just buy a hardware router like an Linksys instead of setting windows up like a router.

First go here from the computer running the TWGS to find you public IP address. http://www.whatismyip.com/

Now your going to want to set up port forwarding so that if there is a request on your public IP to connect to port 23 your firewall will direct that traffic to the privet IP that the TWGS software is running on. Now if you can do that with windows firewall I’m not sure I normally turn off windows firewall and use the firewall built in to the router I have along with a 3rd party software firewall.

That’s about all the help I can give you with the current setup you have

I did that but the ipconfig came up with 2 IP addresses and neither one worked. One of them was 192.168.102.100 and the other was 192.168.0.1, I tried both on my server and gave both to my friend to try, but neither one of them worked. I also found out my "TRUE" IP address with a program, but got an "Error binding player listener (10049)". I'm just so confused as to what to do! Thank you again for all your help guys!

The IP's you listed are privet IP's anything in the ranges of 192.168.0.0, 172.16.0.0, and 10.0.0.0 are all privet and cannot be used on the public Internet. In order for someone to connect to your TWGS from the public Internet they have to use your public address you can find that at the link I posted above.

Go into your firewall and look for something called port forwarding you need to set that up to forward the request that come in on your public IP to the privet IP that host the TWGS on your network.

also if your IP is dynamic you need to get an IP pointing sdervice to point to your computers IP addy and get a domain name to have a name to call your IP and keep the pointing to your server constant, there are several free IP pointing services out there, you need to see which one is best suited for you, but if you have a static IP then you are okay, but do you want to display your IP over the open net or web? also if you are having trouble getting TWGS to come up on port 23, go to admin services and stop the built in telnet service in windows, but do not disable it, just set it to stop, then you can get TWGS to come up on port 23.

Wow, all the various answers in here almost confuse me :P It's my understanding that the TWGS is running on the machine that is not attached directly to the internet, but rather to the second machine. That being the case, you have to set up port forwarding. First, you have to know the internal network IP address of the machine on which the TWGS is running. To do that, you use the IPconfig utility on the machine that has the TWGS running on it. The line that says IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : XX.XX.XX.XX is your IP address. Now, on the machine running ICS (internet connection sharing), go to the sharing tab of the setup, then choose settings, then services. If you want to have the TWGS running on port 23, just check the box marked "Telnet Server." It'll pop up a dialog in which you enter the IP of the machine that you want to forward the connections to. That is the IP address you found in the step above. Enter that, and click ok. Click all the OK's to get out of the ICS setup. You should now be good to go on the port forwarding. Assuming whatever firewall you have running is configured to allow connections on port 23, you're all set. Just go to http://www.whatismyip.com to find your external IP, give it to people you want to connect, and they should be able to.

Harley,

That is good, but if the machine he is running the TWGS on has the Windows factory telnet server running it will not let him run the TWGS on port 23, that is why I told him what I did, from what he was saying, he couldn't get the computer to recognize it on port 23, so I told him how to set the host machine to let it run on it. The reason for this was this statement " "Error binding player listener (10049)". I'm just so confused as to what to do! Thank you again for all your help guys!" This is what it did on me when the windows Telnet server was started, when I stopped it then the TWGS loaded up and ran fine on port 23.

But if I misread what he was saying then what you suggest will work, so I hope not to confuse him, let us know if the TWGS host machine is the one to not let you load up the TWGS server on port 23 or is it the other machine or router?

Also it will help if he has the TWGS set up to lock into the external IP on the config settings of the TWGS.

10049 is an IP address problem. I meant to touch on that and forgot, sorry about that. Basically, he just needs to go to configure | server on the TWGS and change that back to auto. 10048 is the error you get if there is a port conflict.

Thanks Harley, I thought it was one of the two, it has been a while since the problem, and I hope he gets his up and running.
