Now the cheating sysop at ultimate tradewars has banned me from the forum on his website (ultimatetw.com. He did this because he turned him in as a cheater. he also banned me from his game server. that is a good thing now i don't have to worry about playing there no more. U.N. Owen if you read this I have your I.P. and will be suing you for taking away my internet free speech. The Law was passed in 1986.

Even corporations that you work for limit your freedom of speech - divulging corp proprietary information or certain other things that you could get away with in normal conversation can land you in hot water with the boss.

A case in point were the remarks made by an assistant fire chief. His remarks would not have caused him any problem under normal circumstances, however since he used his title/city under his name - he lost his job. Could he fight it, maybe, but he decided not to and was reinstated as a captain a year later. If he had fought it and lost, he would have lost his career with that department.

A second case involved a fire captain that made some remarks to a female clerk at a conveinance <sp> store before going on-duty. Normally those remarks would not have been considered nothing more than rude/crude, however since his badge was visible, he was viewed as being a representative of the department. He received a 3 day suspension.

(Even though I was in the FD for longer than most of the players on here are old, neither of the above was me).

The point for robertc is his internet free speech was not violated even though the sysOps actions may or may not have been warranted. The server is a private server, and as such, the rules for these servers are generally accepted as being set by the sysOps. If we do not like those rules, we simply do not play there. If we feel the server is not run ethically, we run like hell from them.

Bottom line robertc: Don't worry about what happened, and find a server you like and don't let me hit you with a ptorp and SD you again. (assuming that was you I hit on silliman).

"internet free speech" ... rotflol. There are *no* private rights to free speech. Non-disclosure agreements being only one example. "Free speech" only applies to citizen rights for governments within the USA, and only for things labeled as "protected speech." Take a law class before you start spewing that kindof garbage. Also, FYI, making spurious legal threats might be grounds for barratry. If he obtained counsel following your threat you might be liable for the costs incurred. Given the number of "John Doe" lawsuits being filed these days against screen names and IP addresses you should not feel safe just because this starts online.

Where in there does it say you have the right to say what you want without consequence from a sysop? Do tell.
