Is there a way to run multiple TWGS on a single machine? I attempted to do a second install, however it saw that 1 itteration of the software was already present and wanted to do a uninstall/repair.
I want to run 2 distinct servers with different global settings.
thanks in advance
Guy

yeah - I figured that would work fine, but the installer does not allow it. Think I could just copy the directory?

I don't think there are any necessary reg keys associated with TWGS, but I'm really not sure.

well - I'll have to play around and see if I can get this to work... I wanna run a single node server along side a regular server. It would seem a no brainer, but not so.

Probably not the solution you're looking for... but Virtual PC would allow you to accomplish this. If your PC has 2 network cards, the second one can be unused by the host OS, and used exclusively by the virtual OS. Route port 23 to the IP of the host NIC, and some other port (like 2002) to the IP of the Virtual PC NIC. If you had multiple public IPs, you can use a router that supports One-to-One NAT and direct one public IP to the host NIC, and a second IP to the Virtual PC NIC.
Hope you find a better way, but PM me if you need more info about this solution.

It is not possible to install more than one instance of TWGS on the same machine, unless it is by Virtual PC or something like it.
The reason for this is because TWGS stores all setup information to the Windows Registry. This includes the TWGS installation directory, the directory that each, and every, game that is running on that TWGS is in.
And a second installation of TWGS will not produce a second set of registry keys. It would use the keys already present in the registry. And it can eventually lead to corruption of games and TWGS settins.

Wabbit is right. I have tried this for testing purposes to see if it will work and after a while it corrupts the data and makes the TWGS unstable, however if you have 2 computers and need the game on two systems then you can setup a dns pointing service to your IP and run the game on the two different computers with different ports, and it keeps the games seperate on different systems, but if you don't have 2 pewters and use a virtual PC it will work. But the jury is out on if there is interference on the games yet, I have been doing ptivate tests on this to see if it will work and be stable or not, I will let you know the results when I am finished. Also if anyone else wishes to give it a try, let us know your results too.

Would Both Copies of TWGS be Licensed to one? Or would he have to get a new license?

So far I am using the same license for both and so far no problems, I will keep all posted, I use one for my gameserver and one for testing and they are both running fine so far. From what I can tell the virtual PC acts like a seperate PC and the registry info seems to be done the same way, I also have a third TWGS running on my home pewter to design and setup the games to go on my TWGS server for the online server that has the 2 TWGS running. And still using the same reg codes for it all. But like I said the one on the virtual server is my test server and will be coming down soon, I did it to see if it could be done, when testing is done, I will post my findings here for all.
Someday I hope that JP will set up the TWGS so that you can have more than one on a server at a time without having to use a seperate virtual PC for each, mainly because each VPC takes up as much room as the original O/S does. And for people who has their own online server and want to host other peoples websites that has a TWGS server they want hosted on the main server as well, it would reduce the amount of disk space required by having the extra VPC's installed to accomplish this. what this means is this in order for someone to host another persons website and TWGS they will have to install a VPC for each TWGS to be able to have more than one on one single webserver, and that takes up a lot of drive space that could be devoted to a better use, and make the games stay quick. My online server is connected to a very fast T1 connection, and should be upgrading to a T3 connection soon.

It seems to me there should be a way for a program to produce a small-footprint virtual system for a program to run within. Basically, one that leaves interrupt access transparent and doesn't require virtualized hardware, but which makes registry accesses opaque, using a virtual registry (and even falling back on the main registry if a given key doesn't exist, perhaps). Basically just a registry redirector. It would be useful for the installation of multiple instances of a lot of different sorts of programs.
However, googling around I couldn't find any programs that even begin to do something like that. Pity. Maybe one day I'll have to make one. [:P]

I posted previously about BartPE being a good OS for running TWGS. If you were running Virtual PC for the purpose of a separate TWGS, it would be the ideal solution because of its small installation size. We're talking roughly 300 MB for the virtual harddisk containing BartPE and TWGS.

Thanks EP, I will look into that and see about using it instead of the setup I am currently using, thanks a lot this may work out on the hosting of extra website and games better, well at least for hosting the game portion in, you are a lifesaver with this info.
