should not be able to attack figs and shields on a planet. Could we get a toggle for this behavior? I understand shield riding but I think you should have to use a ship that can land on a planet to do it.

Also, fixing the Whos Online Off toggle.

To make it effective the CLV should mirror the T from the Game menu (when Who's online is OFF) and any private hails should go to the mail server if the toggle is off. I think those two things would make the Who's Online Toggle work.

I don't know if I want to change the way the IC can interact with planets in general, but it might be good to change just that one thing, making it drop off the planet when it moves. I could put in a setting to disable riding shields in general, in fact. Like I said, I recently fixed the bug that caused that, so it would be a simple matter to put it on a toggle.

About the CLV and high scores being in sync, I think as long as the gameop can set them to be in sync, that's sufficient, isn't it? Then you can decide if you want clv to provide more info when you're in the game, or the same amount as the high score screen.

I assumed just because it seems logically inconsistent. If you can't enter the atmosphere, how can you go with the planet when it moves? From a gameplay perspective, being the largest ship with special abilities, I could see maybe wanting to limit its ability to move with a planet. The intended design was that this ship could never move with a planet, whether riding shields or on the surface.

ok, I focused on the title "I think having a ship that cannot land", and the lead sentence, "should not be able to attack figs and shields on a planet.

1. Its not just the IC, there are plenty of edits with ships that cannot land. (and a toggle would be perfect)
2. Yes if CLV and High Scores can be synced by choice then I think the only other issue would be the result of sending private hails while who's online is set to off. Hopfully also on a toggle.

Toyman it is a toggle item in the Ship Editor (for whether a ship can land or not) but the toggle I am speaking of would keep a ship that cannot land from attacking a planet at all. I imagine if you tried to land you would get the "Ship too Massive" Message and get dumped back into the sector without a pause and never see the shield or fig prompt.

The default behavior is that you can attack shields and figs and when they are all gone, you get the 'Ship too Massive" Message

Ok, why would a player want a ship that cannot attack a planet? Maybe I am looking at it from a solo perspective, but it would seem that it would be of little practical use except PvP combat and maybe mothing sector cannons. A solo red cashing would not want it, and a blue would not use it for colonizing/farming. If it is implemented then it should show in the ship catalog.

I see this as really two different things. One, whether or not to allow the ship to ride the shields. Two, whether or not to allow the ship to attack the planets. Helix, was the goal to limit riding shields here? Because that can be done without requiring that the ship be unable to attack a planet.

I think shield riding is a good thing, for a ship that CAN land on the planet. I think that if a ship cannot land it should not be able to ride shields or attack the planet. An edit with good examples of ships that can not land is Starwars, it has 4 or 5 ships that cannot land. They are very powerful and are commonly used to reduce planet defenses,

And I am not determined about this, its just a suggestion for an option that makes sense to me. I would be perfectly okay with what you think is best.

I personally think that the threshold for what's a good option is pretty low. If someone, especially a registered gameop, wants it, I'm usually inclined to do it. I just wanted to clarify what the request was.

I guess I could see this as being three modes for how to deal with ships that cannot land. 1) can't land but can attack and ride shields. 2) can't land but can attack, cannot ride shields. 3) can't land, attack, or ride shields.

A bit more complicated, but more flexible. Most people would just leave the default, case 1.
