Post subject:  Can I Dream ?

I'm about to go to bed now .. and as a last thought ...

I'de like to see TWGS go to bed and be done ...

One last thing after the timed game activator gets its game date reset set tick.

I think a rebang option , a multiplier for the Class 9/0's hardener ..

Now that would be a nice touch to TWGS so that when Vids World hosts
its first ever tourney on 4th of July .. yes that's right ..
I don't know the edit but I got the date ..

It's about time TWGS gets everyone together for a tourney again.
Hash out the details and let me know ...

nite all .. pleasant dreams ;)

What are people's thoughts about TW support for port hardening? Other ways the Bigbang and TEDIT can help ops get the games into the state they want them to be?

I do think things are smoothing out with TWGS v2 bugs. I'm sure bugs will continue to come in, but after a surge of reports, I'm getting less and less.

A few of things I'd like to see in bigbang is:
1) Class 0/9 port hardening
2) Ability to bang with upgraded ports (example selling/buying 25% product at bang)
3) Ability to place stardock adjacent to fed space (1 to 10) in and out.

As for 2 & 3 , use my twx script : So_PortFixer.cts
Attachment:
File comment: Run this in Tedit after entering
the game of choice. After Bang
but before you let players in.

So_PortFixer.cts [6.46 KiB]
Downloaded 760 times

if you up or lower port values on all ports , it can take awhile.
.. so I defaulted that script to move dock to
adj to sector 1 and returns to sector 10.
Then makes it a SBB port and puts the ore to 15k and the rest to 3k.

As for # 1 , I do have a hardener script but as it hardens it has to
remove the dailies also because the class 0 locations are reported.

This is why I asked for a multiplier in bang .. no evidence to remove.

If he's going to work or big bang, why not have multiple improvements that way there's no need for server side scripts. Everyone has their own opinions about what is needed and what is more important. All of the things I mentioned are ways to make it easier for newer players to get started, and isn't that what we are working toward to bring in a larger player base?

2 things I would like to see here:
1. Increased maximum class 0 strength
2. A way to set that strength in the TWA

@BigD, yeah, I'm basically open to taking the most popular server-side script practices and rolling them into the server so they're easily accessible to everyone.

@Sing, I'm not sure what 2 means. Any TEDIT or Bigbang setting will be saved into a TWA.

I think what he means is the port strength saved in the TWA regardless if the game rebangs or not. So basically that wouldn't be part of the big bang process, but an optional setting in tedit that big bang didn't change.

Any setting in Bigbang is captured in the TWA. A TWA file is a snapshot of the game when it is saved. So you can either run it as-is, or go ahead and rebang with the same settings. But either way, the settings are automatically part of the TWA. It feels like I'm not getting something, because this just seems too obvious. That's what a TWA file is, the Bigbang and TEdit settings, plus current game data.

Right, currently that isn't an option tho. You can't edit
and save those settings, then pass them around as
part of the TWA. That would be nice. That way the
class 0 ports could be hardened enough to survive
an attack from the top ship of the game, allowing it
to be balanced with the rest of the edit.

Or put another way, it would be nice if the port hardness
was a setting like gtorp cost, or ptorp wave time, etc.

Post subject:  Re: Can I Dream ?

Ok, gotcha.

Currently, if you wanted a TWA with hardened ports, you'd need to bang it, then do whatever processing you need to harden the ports, then save the TWA when it's ready. Anyone who installs the TWA and starts to play without rebanging will start with the state that existed when you exported the TWA. In earlier versions, the game age would not reset when you installed the TWA and started the game, so without banging, the game age could be maybe a year depending on how long ago the TWA was released. This would require you to reset the game age manually before starting the game. But this version resets the game age when the TWA is installed so you can start playing a TWA without a bang. This should allow you to cook an edit more before exporting it.

But sure, the point of this discussion is how to have immediate settings, either in Bigbang or TEDIT, that effects ports and such, so you don't have to use scripts to change the game state. And any setting like this would be part of a TWA and would survive even if the TWA was rebanged before starting to play.

Post subject:  Re: Can I Dream ?

It has to survive rebang. We have to rebang the game every game, otherwise every port, every MCIC, every sector, they're all the same. Someone with a map from the previous game would have a massive advantage over new players, they could get all the best ports first w/o having to explore.

Post subject:  Re: Can I Dream ?

Right, good point. So there currently isn't a way to "cook" a game edit, then pass it around. Every TWA has to be rebanged when you start. Ok. So that does limit what you can pass in a TWA quite a bit. I definitely see the point now.

Post subject:  Re: Can I Dream ?

So I'll ask again .. will there be a class 9/0 hardening matrix
in Big Bang anytime soon ?

I was told that descriptions was changed in some way .. either in directory
locations or something .. I'll have to look into that.

We do have a cmd file to get info from game and put it into the descriptions
folder .. but this too could be integrated into twgs .. its almost a complete capture of the * in the T-menu options.

To see some in action , come to my server or Archies portal
we are both using them in our servers at the main screen .. type ! and a game letter.

Oh and have every bang checked for ANSI folder .. cause if its missing the user has to make one.
This is one of the things the cmd file is doing .. so if it were replaced by TWGS engine .. something has to do it ..

TIA

I do want to do the port hardening, but I can't say when. Trying to hit the higher priority things first.

I should have default description output, based on game settings, you're right.

When you say "ANSI Directory", do you mean the directory under TWGS\GAME or an ANSI directory under each game folder?
