In-game it's still the :y.

If you are referring to the actual mail file, you need access to the directory \mail and delete the player's mail account file.

Okay, so its not a per game, per player, remote option then.

I don't know that we can with the remote sysop access. I think you need to have remote desktop to use the Command Center or explore the C: drive for the mail files.

Correct. There is no option to do it via the admin in TWGS. You need remote desktop or some other util to access the system's file folders.

Sorry Helix. Each game has a \mail folder, so it is per game. But you will need to have some sort of remote desktop to access the server's file folders to delete them.

the ":" key still does it for me. Forget this post for some reason it only showed the 1st post when I loaded this thread so I thought it was a new thread.

That is a feature that would definitely be handy on the remote menu, In game H, with 12 alien races, I had to turn messages off, so I imagine the mail file will be gigantic.
Even G with 3 races...

Maybe an addition to extern (set in tedit as an option) to clear the mail file then or at midnight.

Speaking of which, any chance of moving the things that happen at midnight to the extern process?

And why doesnt the 'Shield Generator' generate shields?

I definitely think the aliens are too spammy. I guess I'd like to figure out a way to keep the mail generated by aliens as low as possible so the mail files aren't ballooning up. But whether or not that happens, a maximum size or message count might be useful. Or maybe age of message? Currently it's cleared after "days to deletion", but that could be its own setting so you can clear after a few days.

I definitely would like to move all "midnight" events to occur with extern so that we can allow ops to shift that critical time around and hopefully avoid keeping people up all night. I'm also in favor of phasing out extern so that we don't have a large number of critical things happening at one time during the day, but it's spread out over the day instead. I could basically create an "extern" app that runs like an alien server, 24/7, handling all of the maintenance things. For example, feds could patrol the MSLs in realtime, players could be evicted after, say, an hour in FedSpace, debris and radiation could be constantly clearing rather than just at Extern time, etc. This is something I'd love to explore.

Where does the game reference "shield generators"? It mentions "shield armor points". In my interpretation of TW "shields", part of the system is a generated force field, but part of it is a commodity that can be depleted, and that's what you purchase when you're buying "shields".

Apparently, in my mind is where it is mentioned. Wishful thinking can be the worst kind, somehow I had turned 'Planetary Shield System' into 'Planetary Shield Generator' in my head.

But definitely like the sound of all of the extern/midnight maintenance able to run all at once. It would be nice to have a process that happens to run at midnight if the op wants it happen at midnight. (even having the setting be 'per game' instead of global would be nice.)

Good point about it being "per game" rather than server-wide. I'll look into that.

could you have it dump the sectors where an action occurred into one mail message? like- the ferrengi attacked your fighters in: 222, 333, 444 etc and like autodels the individual message after it gets added?
