 Re: photon self det.
wow, parrot... ya got me.
ya got me twisted, bro... hahaha
never sure if your gonna attack my posts or support them... but, your offer to help... well, you just blew me away!
thanks so much
i would like you to play a black market game, as ceo... with me as partner. It would be easier to play one than to describe the details, as i have no idea how aspects of the game would work. after the HHT (sure got plenty of fire there), let's get together. I know of two boards that would tedit a black market for us. Last yr. Thrawn said he would help out (and his board is SWEET!), or an alternative might be Toyland, as Toyman has shown some interest. What say ye. Pirate.

 Re: photon self det.
cc, I appreciate the suggestions and there are some good ones. I made that change for Vid because it's clear that I changed earlier behavior and decided I'd like to give people the option to use old or new behavior. But in general, though I go back and forth on this, right now I'm thinking that any changes to gameplay should be hold over to a new major version, v4. I have a handful of major new features and changes in code right now but they're compiled out for this version. Once this version is clean and ready to run for another couple of decades, I'm hoping I can explore some major changes to the game in a new version that will run side-by-side with this one. A major goal of that version will be to try to make the game less script-driven and a bit more casual.

 Re: photon self det.
hi John,
Looking forward to your new version. We players and sys's have twisted TW in every direction, hoping to find a cool mix to player interaction, building and combat. At the moment, the playing style is all about the grid, (call it Power TW) and that makes the game stressful and impossible to play for new/casual/returning players. It is a negative force in the game that sends new players packing. Only the better more ferocious players are enjoying success. TW is in competition with other entertainments. A couple small changes would have a big impact on player retention. I see myself as a "Harry Mud" type character... a solo cruiser, looking for business and adventure, while hunting the other players ships. That playing style is difficult to achieve today. The ptorp and limpet suggestions are somewhat self serving, giving me more freedom to roam. There would remain no way to ptorp your way around the universe even if the changes were implemented... ptorps are too expensive and the ptorp ships don't carry enough ptorps to make serious inroads into an enemies grid, but it would help. John, easy for me to run off a few suggestions.... i have no idea how the suggestions would effect the interlacing of the programing itself. I see it as though it was a story to be created, and that is far removed from the "nuts and bolts" that you must juggle. All the power to ya, brother... and good luck to your current and future endeavours.

 Re: photon self det.
Thanks, cc. There are a lot of things I'd like to do to try to bring the game back to a more casual place. But I'm holding back the big changes for a new major version. I don't want to take the game away from those who like it like it is, but I hope I have an opportunity to explore some new ideas once this version is final.
