ok i was on a planet smashing mission, to pop 10 planets in an enemy base 30 seconds before extern. to be honest, my macro was too ambitious and i screwed it up and i was photonned 1 hop out. what you see below is after the wave duration is ended, i recover 125 turns at extern but i still can't xport out or twarp out. the 'I' screen clearly shows that i have 125 turns, but anything i try to do tells me i am out of turns. i had to call for a planet pickup.

You recover 125 of your turns.

Hrm, wonder if it would've done the same if you had hit M instead of X.

Rev seen this a couple times when I was playing on Ultimate, I would get turns after eating a photon (my own usually). TWX and Swath both showed I had turns, tried everything to get to move or xport, finally I did an exit enter and it worked. Must be a glitch when it is that close to extern. Since the 2 times I can think of were both in the same situation right before extern was getting ready to run.

That's why I wondered if it would've done the same w/ the M command, hehe. I wonder if hitting M0^M before the xport would've reset the turn status.

There's a lot of things attached to a move event or a sector entry event. I've seen a handful of little bugs (like how planet status updates during landing but not sector entry) over the years regarding these, and how some things updated in one event are not updated on other events (like xport)... leading to a situation like the above.

If you get a chance to test the various permutations, it'd be interesting to see the results. Eat a torp and see what it takes to finally reset the "no turns" status. I'm sure exit-enter would do it, since a sector entry triggers practically everything, but that might not be good if you're sitting in an enemy figged sector and worried about eating a torp on return.

i tried moving by typing in a sector number, but i didn't actually use the "m" command.

i tried the exit/enter, but in doing so i picked up another limpet and in turn i ate another photon which took away my 125 turns. hehe.

I ran into this in a private game with friends on my server - we were curious so I tried different settings to prove our theory. The theory is that you will be unable to move REGARDLESS OF TURN STATUS for the same number of minutes as the number of seconds photons are set to. So, if photons are set to 5 seconds - then you will be disabled for 5 minutes of game time, EVEN if you regain turns in less than 5 minutes. At the end of the 5 minutes you can then move with your newly acquired turns. If photons are set to 3 seconds, then that means you will be dead in the water for 3 minutes, if 10 seconds = 10 minutes!

It kind of sounds like what happens in an unlim game, you technically have turns, but can't use them until the ptorp wears off: 2 second ptorp, 2 minutes that you can't move (in most cases).

I'm just guessing, but rgorion probably used something like a 10 second ptorp 5 minutes before the hour to verify.

That isn't a theory. In an unlimited turn game, if you are ptorped, you will lose your turns for the remainder of the 1st minute until the minutes add up to be the the same as the number of seconds the photon wave duration is set at. So if you are torped at 30 seconds after the game clock hits the top of the minute, you won't be able to move for 3 1/2 minutes if the photon wave is set to 4 seconds.

In a turn game, you lose all your turns until the top of the hour then you gain 1 hours worth of turns.

There is actually at least one situation in an unlim where you can be torped and not lose time.

So if this thing resembles the unlim bug, can you regain your turns if you change sectors?

Yeah. I launched a ptorp 3 1/2 minutes before the top of the hour on this test, and then towed the torped "player" out of the sector. When the turns showed up, the "player" was able to move even though the ptorp time would not have been up. (I did not cut my towing data)
