Unread post Missing aliens after extern?
Hi, tonight at extern a gold race "The Borg" was supposed to appear.

For the past 7 days, the 'show whos online' function showed 3 races, alien traders ferrengi and borg.

Now the borg have disappeared from that view. Where did they go? Is there an error log somewhere I can find out where they went?

Maybe they turned tail and fled to sector 0?

I dunno!

Game settings, alien traders = 50 max
ferrengi = 150 max
borg = 750 max (700 to start)

any ideas? Also sample ship names & sample alien names for borg race doesn't work, tells me to debug with nonpname but when i invoke in dos prompt, it shows me correct names on both ships and alien names. Even tried copying ferrship.nam and ferrengi.nam and just renaming them, still gives the error.

The alien manager is where you can see whats happening. You may have to reset the race and then reset the server. There are also many settings that are buggy when dealing with aliens.

Still having problems setting up BORG.NAM and BORGSHIP.NAM on a new machine on multiple alien races. The two gold races Alien Traders & Ferrengi work fine. However any race I create past that will not.

I have tried copying the default ferrengi names & snames to tw5/gold directory and using them. Same error. I have tried renaming the files using caps/nocaps. I have tried notepad and wordpad to edit them, as well as DOS editor, thinking maybe there's a 1-byte end on something that twgs doesn't like...

This is the message:

Error in namefile. Use NONPNAME.EXE to debug the file.

Here's the contents of borg.nam
[Options]
BuildName=No
Names=2
Repeats=Yes
[First]
borg
[Last]
collective

and the contents of borgship.nam
[Options]
BuildName=No
Repeats=yes

I have run nonpname.exe on both of those files and it shows me exactly what you would expect to see without any errors

Hope somebody can give me an answer cuz it looks rather silly with alien trader names on a borg race!
And that's what i get even though i specify borg.nam and borgship.nam

HELP! lol

A few things I ran into getting the alien names/ship names to work on this. When in t-edit and you get an error message on the name file, back all the way out of the editor and shutdown the TWGS. For some reason it appears to load the name files and not reload them even if you put in a different file name, although it will generate an error if you change the file name to one that doesn't exist. I went through several attempts and this seemed the only way that worked. I also rebanged the game a few times and that may have had an effect during the mod/try of the name files - don't know why it would though.

I know this doesn't make a lot of sense - didn't to me at 3 AM, but the name files started working. I need to retry this to verify what is happening, or maybe someone who has can give better insight.

Have you tried to lower the number? Set the BORG to 20, Ferrengi to 10, Alien Traders to 5. Almost tells me the TWGS has an issue with 700 BORG to start.

Yeah just now i tried exiting the game server, and it exited cleanly (lol sometimes it doesnt). I restarted it, went into the gold alien editor to race #2 section 5 to sample the names, same thing. Error in namefile, debug with nonpname.exe for details.

These are the namefiles I was sent by Promethius via email and they have only been downloaded from the mailserver and saved to the TW5/gold game directory.

Pretty much I'm thinking I'll just live with the issue.

Try banging the .TWA I sent with the name files in the directory and see what happens.
