[pre] is the only one i can think of. it sets a font like courier or lucinda console and preserves spaces so that you can post tables with columns that line up - or ascii art.

also, quoted text doesn't really stand out - it needs to be indented or have a different background color or a box drawn around it - something.

EDIT: hmm this only appears to be a problem in old posts, e.g. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17713

That just might have to be that way. I'll look at it over the weekend. It was hacked to work in phpbb2 but everytime I update it'll revert. Kind of a pain.
