Some details not in post..or on website: Ship move delay is at quarter and sysop seems to be in game.

I read the website, and looks like friendly kind of building game, rules call for a 7 day truce on new players.

Thank you for your response Crosby,

Yes, the ship move delay is on (this is player requested game) as it was the way it was originally requested. If our users (or people who want to be users) request a game, we will try to set them up with it. In the games we design we try to build in balance between different playing styles and red/blue, but in requested games they can be *interesting*.

Yes to the Truce. I will try to make that clear in any future rebang announcements.

I am one of the game-ops for LakeTravisBum, and I am currently playing this Pirates game. Boone will be the game-op for this game, as I (or one of the other game-ops) are for the games he is in.

Thank you for posting the ping times Wolfen, Quick question: Other than 1) No ship delay, 2) No rob delay, 3) Good ping times ... What other settings would you recommend if we were to make a new game *in your image*?

Basically any edit that has delays does nothing but require additional time to play a game, and IMO, simulates a laggy server. The delays also make it fairly easy to hit people when planets go mobile as the planet move is not affected by ship delay. Grab a second ship to tow and try express warping with ship delay. ;)

As for my other preferred settings, no truce or at worst a 1 day truce, 1 day bust clears and ships geared to defensive capability and then offensive. By the ship setting, I mean that the starter ship and maybe a mid level ship has greater defensive odds than offensive to allow players to get going (ie. 1.0:1 offensive, 2.0:1 defensive). The best ships would have greater offensive odds and lower defensive odds (ie 2.5:1 offensive and 1.5:1 defensive). The pirates edit has a fairly good setup on ships.

Guardian bonus ships should not have IGs if they are attack level ships (see the Enterra in a Sub Zero edit as an example of what a ship shouldn't be). Interactive sub prompts should be on - default setting is off and death delay has to be on.

A CPC setting of 20 - 50 is good, with the higher number being better.

I really didn't mean to be picky or whiney about the game settings, as I mentioned, it's pretty clear in the rules on your website that this is to be a slower paced, building style game. To paraphrase your very well-written rules, take it easy on the new folk, don't just kill outta hand.
I think this is a perfectly acceptable way to set up your games, in fact, I've run into quite a few players over the years who would like to have a server like this. So for providing a server like this is great, keep it up!

For general settings, the delays; rob, move, eprobe.. I guess I'm in favor of speeding up the game, so I can run my turns for the day and get on w/ my life. Problems come really because some of these delays are 'global' and so ALL the games on your server will have these delays. This makes it difficult to provide a sampling of all styles of games; i.e. No delay unlims for Prom/Deathmatch players, and mid to low turn games for the turn players. Someday, these settings may be made game-specific.

Try to make games for your users, having player requested games is great! This is a server responding to demand, awesome! Maybe all severs should just host one type of game, to attact a certain type of player. Don't get caught up in trying to please Everyone!

ps. wolfen may have cby'd..but I'll stick around and try to give your pirates players some competition...

Thanks for the kind words. There are a lot of old time players out there that haven't played in a log time, and those are the folks we are trying to re-introduce to the game. As we build, we are trying to create a friendly and inviting enviroment for these folks. But as time goes on, we want to respond to the desires of the users out there, so we welcome your (and Wolfen's) comments and desires.

The other thing we are doing is trying to create some unique games. Our Delta sector game I think is pretty interesting, and we are working on an Alpha Sector (Star Trek) game. The Pirates and Halo games that we are currently running are (like said before) completely player requested and tweeked.

Looking forward to playing with you on this one!

Wanted to thank you both for you suggestions. We are looking at future settings for future games and will be taking your input into consideration. Thanks again!
